The more I think about this, the more it makes sense....and then not make sense. I figure a 447/3 that motor wouldn't break a sweat...but it did. However, I did log it (I'm gonna pull my log files this evening because I don't remember the rpm) and it only logged 120a max. 2300kv on 8s would be ridiculous rpm and likely alot more amps than that. I am going to check this again to be sure. It has to be a fluke. ...has to be. My esc would have toasted on 8s and really it should have been faster than it was....unless it just could not turn the prop fast enough....but the amps pulled should be higher....

That's really cool Travis, or you can get one of these if you can't or don't want to build one, I've got one and they work great. http://www.hobbypartz.com/26p-motorchecker.htmlComment

Nice Travis, very interesting gadgetThat would be great to have, especially for matching motors for twin setups. I'd love to see how these speed gems 2 'Platinum' mills I picked up for my Villain X perform :-) . Their rated at 13t x3 & 31,400 rpm, but idk if that's @ 7.2v or 8.4v ?. Since Wake' is back, perhaps he can shed some light on this for us ? :-) . I am planning on running them on 4s with my Astroflight 212D, instead of the hpi gt-550 mills (esavage motors)

flraptor, keith sent me a link to that same unit earlier today. I'm thinking about buying one but i will decide tonight. i'll be doing a bunch more testing to see if this was a fluke or not...32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

...Just wot is all that matters. I'm not putting a load on it, just want to know my kv, no load.....

But that is useless information unless all you want to know is if the motor is labeled wrong. The Kv drop under load will actually tell you something useful about how efficient the motor is - and how you can expect it to perform on the water under load. All you need to do is turn the motor around, maybe secure it a bit better, and put an airplane prop on it for a load. It is self-cooling and would produce more useful data. Or not.

"2300kv on 8s would be ridiculous rpm". Ummm yeah! even with that 447/3, dogs would have been howling from a mile away. As far as " breaking a sweat ", are you basing that solely on the temp? Cuz, I'm thinking
it was the over volting. As far as "alot more amps than 120amps", maybe not, that prop might not have hooked-up. Imagine an unloaded semi tractor rig sitting with it's rear wheels in a pool of oil, running in tenth gear.
How much horsepower is it really using?
Fluid stated, " if it is really 2300 then you would have burned up your ESC the first time you tried running it in a boat (when assuming it was a 1250 Kv motor) ". Again, maybe not, sometimes we get lucky.
kfxguy said it was in a Shocker, and he brought her in with a motor temp. of 130 degrees. but *I* don't know what his ESC was, how long he was out, and what he did with it. I have telemetry with heat probes, and have had to bring a boat back after just 30 seconds, and my equipment survived. A few more seconds, probably not.

No doubt that it will, i even have an amp...ugh...logger thing....not sure what youd call it because it doesnt actually log, it just tells you your max amps pulled and current amps being pulled. I'm sure as time goes on, i'll get even deeper into this and do some stuff like that. Mainly what i wanted was a simple tool that i could use to "tweak" my motors. From what i understand, rotor placement has a impact on the motors out put...and with me putting a longer rotor in my 1521 i thought it would be good to find the best placement for it. Also was told by neu that the longer rotor would lower my kv some....I wanted to know by how much.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

i just watched some videos of the boat with the 1527 on 6s and 8s. no way its 2300kv. no way. it looks like its in slow motion compared to what im messing with now and the motor does not sound like its turning a bunch of rpm....i'll test some more tonight. maybe i overlooked something this morning...I was leaving for work when I ran out into the shop to test it.Comment
