HELP with setup for Atomik arc 58 cat

    Hello everyone
I got an atomik arc 58'' cat ARR for christmas last year and it has been a really frustrating build.I went with the leopard 5698 1100kv motor with water jacket,CC hydra ice 240A esc, hyperion 5000mah 4s x2 in series.CC 6.5mm polarized plugs,8ga wire, spectrum receiver, stock 54mm/3 blade prop.First off i had 2 bring the motor mount to a machine shop to drill bigger hole pattern to mount the leopard 5698.And they milled out one end of the coupler to 8mm to fit the motor shaft.Anyway i get everything installed and put it in the water. It lasted 3min before the ESC crapped out.I wasnt even going full throttle. So i send esc back to castle to have repaired. They send me a new one.I reinstall new esc and same thing happens.I call castle to ask WTF ?They tell me i need more mAh so i empty my piggy bank and order up 2 maxxamps 12000xl 14.8v 100c lipo batteries.I get the new batts. And i get esc repaired AGAIN.I install everything back in boat and really take it easy on the water and it craps out again.I call castle again and they tell me theres nothing more they can do 4 me.And they have discontinued all marine escs.JUST GREAT NOW WHAT?So i go with a swordfish 300A esc and the same things are happening.I sent ESC back to china for repairs and i got it back 3 weeks later. Now im scared to put back into boat .
I need help. What am i doing wrong? I want to use the maxxamps batteries that i have.Should i go to a lower kv motor? Bigger prop?Someone please help?I dont want to set any speed records.I just want it to work and speed around the 50+mph range

Did all these ESC's let out the magic smoke? First off, what I see is that you are running a Large, 3 blade which was intended to be used with the stock 1100kv outrunner on 6s. The torque provided by that outrunner was able to turn that 3 blader on 6s. You ran the castle ESC at its max voltage pulling huge amps, not good. I would try it out on 6s if you have the packs to make 6s2p, stock prop. Then if you are not happy with the speed and want to go 8s, prop down to an x450 as a starting point.

As i was reading, i was thinking you have too much prop. Start at a 50 or 52mm two blade. after the second esc burned, you should have posted this. actually, after the first. think of it this way (this is my analogy of it). Putting too much prop is like putting a rc car up to a brick wall and hitting the throttle wide open and holding it there. Then as you go up on prop, kit would be akin to putting more sticky tires on that car and adding a bigger pinion gear....where you think of it that way, it puts the excessive motor loading into an easy to understand perspective. When starting with a new, unknown setup, always start small and check your temps. I usually will run the boat for about 30 seconds and check the temp right at first. If you have a serious problem, it dont take long for it to rear its head. Temps are still cool at 30 seconds? well run it a little longer. check. you get the idea....you gotta do this on new sets ups....and if you tape the hatch on like some of these old timers here do (jab jab...lol) then may patience be on your side!

        Hi friend
No magic smoke just keep popping caps. I was trying use data logger from both escs ,but it never lasted long enough to get any info.I only have the maxxamps batteries that i mentioned. Some people tell me i should be 10s-12s with this leopard 5698 1100kv?But when i started this journey i started with the castle 240 hydra ice that maxed out @ 8s.I really dont want to get bigger batteries they are too expensive.

I'll start looking into smaller props.I guess i just figured that the rtr comes with a 1100kv outrunner, and that the leopard 5698 1100kv motor was alot bigger and that it would handle the 53mm 3blade prop no prob?

You can repair ESC's with popped caps by adding your own cap bank, done it many times as long as the ESC itself is not fried. A 58" hull is really a 10-12s hull with a LOW kv motor, but it can be done on less cells with a speed punishment. Have you already bought and received those big 4s lipos?

Well.....if your running 6s on the stock system that equals 24,420 rpm (this is not absolute, just a guideline) then you bump up the motor size (more amp draw there for sure) and bump voltage to 8s then your looking at 32,560 rpm.......so if you have a prop that was big and meant for lower rpm.....then turn 8000rpm more.....well that could present a problem. prop down.....and it should be fine.

Ok, so you have 12,000 mah and 8s to work with, a Prather s225 would also be a suggestion they are roughly a 1.5 pitch and its 46.7mm in diameter. Motorwise i wish u had the 910kv which would probably spin the stock prop.

                  http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...i-prather-s225

You can find a bunch of videos of how to install cap banks, just leave the old popped ones on there unless its easy to take them off.

Remember that i have the swordfish 300A esc now.And i just got back from being repaired. I was just looking at the Prather s225 prop it says it requires balancing. How do i balance a prop?

I'm running basicly the same setup in a 48" Viper Mono hull on 10s SF 300 pro plus ESC and a Leopard 56110 1100kv with a Prather 235 50.8 mm 2 blade. The 54mm 3 blade is a little much and I'd run 4 4s packs each pair in series then parallel the two pair to make 2 8s packs. 1`8s pack isn't enough how did you have your 2 4s packs wired?.

I have two 12,000mAh 14.8v 100c Maxamp batteries.I made a short Y harness with 8ga wire and the CC 6.5mm polarized plugs, that i use to run the two batteries in series

OK, a Y harness, do you have +to+ and -to- on the batteries then + on batteries to + on ESC and - on batteries to - on the ESC if so this is parallel not series in which case you have 4s not 8s and that would be why you're burning up ESCs.. batteries in series http://digitalcompassshop.files.word...-in-series.png batteries in parallel http://static.cargurus.com/images/si...2657006403.gif
