Travis, How much travel does it have? It came out excellent, the only thing I see is it may need a little more travel.Comment

It has 6mm of travel. Think about this...you still have a slot in the strut right....set that close, then you have 6mm to mess with. Or set it in the middle and you have 3mm up, 3mm down. That will get you closer. I guess at this point it's to fine tune and adjust for small prop changes. I'm going to make another one with a slightly different way of going up and down. It will allow more travel. This one is no doubt going to be useable, but it's the first try. After Making it, I thought of a couple better things to do and realized some mistakes I made and some things that need to be changed. The second one will be much better. It's going to be slightly thinner and lighter. The base is going to have the dovetail cut deeper into it for more strength and no slack. The extension piece will be threaded, then the screw will be located in the mount. Cant decide if the screw will be on the top or bottom. Probably still the top. Thinking out loud lol.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

To finish it, sand down the machine marks and then go to finer grade wet/dry paper and then polish. A dremel or similar with a buffing wheel should do the job. It'll just take a little time and effort to make it look real nice. Or you could anodise it.NZMPBA 2013, 2016 Open Electric Champion. NZMPBA 2016 P Offshore Champion.

Maybe you could thread the sliding part so when it's adjusted the adjustment screw doesn't go lower. The way it is seems like the screw might be in water when it's maxed out.
Just a thought. Great idea and executionComment

That's how it will be on the second version. The screw won't be in the water at speed anyway.....but yea...a few days ago after building and looking it over I was trying to think of improvements and that was one of them.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

Hiya Travis,
You have a pretty good brainstorm going on here, as well as some really nice looking work, good job. After reading the entire thread either I'm confused, or my caffeine content is dangerously low and I'm tired, but what are you trying to accomplish with this mount you are designing that you haven't been able to find on the market ?.
Is this going to have vertical as well as horizontal adjustment ?, at least that's the way I take it you're moving with this.if that's the case it'll be quite interesting to see how it performs. The speedmaster strut on my mm gives me like 8° of +.- vertical adjustment, and I have it marked off in 1/8" increments .
I have never seen a strut with horizontal adjustment on it, however if you look at the Traxxas villain or the Nitro V out drives. the trim adjustment tabs allow for vertical and horizontal strut adjustment simultaneously.
if you're going to design a horizontal adjustment, are you going to incorporate a slip joint on the stuffing tube, so it can slide at the same rate as the strut ?Comment

The strut design my boat has is not very accurate, repeatable or easy to make just an up and down adjustment. Without throwing the prop angle off. My strut has one screw that goes through it with a long slot....as I try to maverick it up or down, the stuffing tube wants to change the angle. I have two slip joints on the stuffing tube but it still does it. I have my angle set and I don't want it moving when I go up and down for prop changes. Also I have two screws locking the strut down , a boat this fast will throw the strut out of alignment quickly. If you've noticed, one side if the strut mount is thick and the bolts thread into it, ever try to hold a wrench on the nut, hold the strut where you want it and tighten with an allen wrench? Yea, I don't find it much fun myself....so now I just lock the screws down. The holes for the threaded part were drilled one drill bit size smaller....trick I learned to make threads a little tighter and stronger. With this setup, I'll simply turn a screw to move the strut up and down and I won't be fiddling with holding it straight. Here's some pics to help...
Here's my strut setup now....
