Need a boat built

Now you're being honest? Before you were ready to take my money and build the boat "no problem"! Now you say I should lower my goals? You wouldn't answer my questions directly but told me in a message you "just know from experience" what parts to use. I think we are done here. I'm glad your customers are happy with your service. I just hope you don't mislead any future customers.

I didnt go looking for you, you came looking for me. I'm not looking to take your money, or anyone elses money for that matter. Im in this for my own pleasure, not to make a buck or build a business off it. I can tell with your attitude what kind of customer you would be, your not someone id want to do anything for anyway. good luck to you.

this is exactly the reason I'm building a rivercat for my customer. because im comfortable with it. Also the same reason its a single, because i'm comfortable with it and I know it works. His setup is extremly close to mine, just done a little nicer than mine (not taking anything awayfrom mine...just learned more since that build). Like Ive stated before, Im still failrly new and constantly learning but I'm
bowing out of the building for people. My experience pales in comparison to most people on here so i guess i dont need to build anything for anyone but myself.

I don't think you need to compare yourself to anyone else...nobody that I know of is really interested in taking anyone else's customers so it doesn't really matter how you compare to them. There are customers that are looking for all types of builds, and the person who is interested in one of your builds probably isn't interested in a build from someone like Kent or Chris for example. Guys that build boats well are plenty busy, so there's no need for any real competition. Nobody is building boats to put food on the table, we do it because we have a love for the hobby and want to contribute. Myself, Kent, Manuel, Chris, Joel...we all have our own businesses, jobs, and families that take up the majority of our time. There's plenty of room for you in this hobby if you want to build boats, don't get discouraged because you couldn't answer all of one guy's questions. Nobody knows it all.

Travis did nothing wrong as far as I can see. He mentioned many posts ago he's never built a twin. He was up front and honest from the start.

I think it's noble of Travis to bow out. He realized what he was getting into and did the rite thing. Some guys would have taken your money.

What did it turn into exactly? I for one have taken a few lessons from this thread. I would love to build boats for other people some day and have learned a couple things from this. Not because I want to make money but I want the experience and would love to get other people hooked on this hobby as much as I am (plus it's a good way to get money in the PP account past the boss!! lol)

In one of Travis's other threads I complimented him on his work, as I think most here have. I may seem biased referring Keith and Joel because I consider both friends but I also referred Scott and Kent and I have never spoken to either directly. Why? Because they all have experience with the type of build that the OP is looking for, an analogy that comes to mind is this: Would I take my Trans Am to my local mechanic (good friend) to have him rebuild my motor or for other work? yes. Would I take my Ferrari(I wish) to him for the same? no. Why? Because he has never worked on one before. Could he? sure but I wouldn't want someone to learn on my Ferrari on my dime. I'm not trying to knock Travis's building skills at all, I just saw a guy that was looking at spending 5k or more (HPR, Lehners) on a build and wanted to direct him to the right people. If the OP would of come on here asking for Trav to build a Fantasm or rivercat I wouldn't of said a word, I'm sure Travis would do a great job.

I deleted my posts because I felt like everything I typed was a waste of time. If he straight up told me he wanted a $5k boat I would have directed him to keith. It does not take 5 grand to do 80 mph anyway. I could build a gold plated boat that does 80 mph for that. We never even talked price. He said he wanted a fun boat around 45" in the 80mph range. He didn't specify but I took a guess that this would be his first high grade boat. I would never recommend a 5 thousand dollar boat to a beginner.

He was asking about an HPR with Lehners running 10s, how much do you think all that would cost? Price out an HPR with running gear.....Drives, rudder, Lehners, and esc's to run 10s safely. You know everything else that goes into a build to add onto that. You're right it doesn't take 5k to do 80.

I don't think Tom ever built a boat himself. Those 96" cats he had molded were being built a few miles from my house. SCT couldn't build the hulls in carbon for under 1k so Tom moved the molds to Florida and they've not been heard from since. Tom bailed on the whole danged thing.

I carry liability insurance under H2O Specialties but I don't think it would cover a catastrophic boat incident. That's not my primary business. I may ask my underwriter about that.
