I didnt go looking for you, you came looking for me. I'm not looking to take your money, or anyone elses money for that matter. Im in this for my own pleasure, not to make a buck or build a business off it. I can tell with your attitude what kind of customer you would be, your not someone id want to do anything for anyway. good luck to you.

Originally posted by kfxguythis is exactly the reason I'm building a rivercat for my customer. because im comfortable with it. Also the same reason its a single, because i'm comfortable with it and I know it works. His setup is extremly close to mine, just done a little nicer than mine (not taking anything awayfrom mine...just learned more since that build). Like Ive stated before, Im still failrly new and constantly learning but I'm
bowing out of the building for people. My experience pales in comparison to most people on here so i guess i dont need to build anything for anyone but myself.
I don't think you need to compare yourself to anyone else...nobody that I know of is really interested in taking anyone else's customers so it doesn't really matter how you compare to them. There are customers that are looking for all types of builds, and the person who is interested in one of your builds probably isn't interested in a build from someone like Kent or Chris for example. Guys that build boats well are plenty busy, so there's no need for any real competition. Nobody is building boats to put food on the table, we do it because we have a love for the hobby and want to contribute. Myself, Kent, Manuel, Chris, Joel...we all have our own businesses, jobs, and families that take up the majority of our time. There's plenty of room for you in this hobby if you want to build boats, don't get discouraged because you couldn't answer all of one guy's questions. Nobody knows it all.Comment

That all seems perfectly logical to me. I don't think there's anything wrong with you building something you're not familiar with either, as long as your customer is aware of your experience level and accepts it.

Travis did nothing wrong as far as I can see. He mentioned many posts ago he's never built a twin. He was up front and honest from the start.
Waverider, your post is not the way to ingratiate yourself into the forum.
Travis, I still think you should give a twin a try... -)

Odd that someone who did not mislead with their statements was compelled to deleted most of their posts in this thread. Plus you wanted to communicate privately through messages so no one else would question you. That was my first red flag. Thanks anyway.Comment

Someone who asks questions before spending a good amount of cash and then questions the fact that you won't answer them is the bad guy?Last edited by Waverider; 08-21-2014, 08:39 PM.Comment

Wow, first off I want to say Thanks Keith for the kind words!!! I don't even know how to reply...
What did it turn into exactly? I for one have taken a few lessons from this thread. I would love to build boats for other people some day and have learned a couple things from this. Not because I want to make money but I want the experience and would love to get other people hooked on this hobby as much as I am (plus it's a good way to get money in the PP account past the boss!! lol)
In one of Travis's other threads I complimented him on his work, as I think most here have. I may seem biased referring Keith and Joel because I consider both friends but I also referred Scott and Kent and I have never spoken to either directly. Why? Because they all have experience with the type of build that the OP is looking for, an analogy that comes to mind is this: Would I take my Trans Am to my local mechanic (good friend) to have him rebuild my motor or for other work? yes. Would I take my Ferrari(I wish) to him for the same? no. Why? Because he has never worked on one before. Could he? sure but I wouldn't want someone to learn on my Ferrari on my dime. I'm not trying to knock Travis's building skills at all, I just saw a guy that was looking at spending 5k or more (HPR, Lehners) on a build and wanted to direct him to the right people. If the OP would of come on here asking for Trav to build a Fantasm or rivercat I wouldn't of said a word, I'm sure Travis would do a great job.
With all that being said, at the end here it is getting fishy, I hate when someone deletes their posts, it makes the person that responds to that post look like they are having a conversation with themselves lol. Also if the guy I am going to hand 5 or 6k to can't answer questions about said build and someone else had to, wouldn't that give you second thoughts?Comment

He was asking about an HPR with Lehners running 10s, how much do you think all that would cost? Price out an HPR with running gear.....Drives, rudder, Lehners, and esc's to run 10s safely. You know everything else that goes into a build to add onto that. You're right it doesn't take 5k to do 80.Comment

I carry liability insurance under H2O Specialties but I don't think it would cover a catastrophic boat incident. That's not my primary business. I may ask my underwriter about that.Noisy personComment
