Jay, I was really kidding, hope I didn't offend you in anyway. You know how much I admire you and respect you!
I said that because this topic has been said a thousand times and I know your position on the FlySky.
In retrospect I regret joking in this way, never a good thing to pull another member's name in such a way!
I apologize for carrying the joke too far!

You know me, I do treat people with respect and if I make a mistake, I will apologise, it is better to communicate rather than let a misunderstanding grow to something unmanageable.
        Just my take.

So what is the expected range for the Spektrum MR200 and MR3000 receivers?

I think I may have really screwed up by selling all of my Spektrum gear and sticking with Tactic. I almost lost a $1200 boat today because the darn receiver went into "hold last position" failsafe at 500 feet. I watched as it continued another 1000 feet out and finally came to a stop in a sandy area. New prop, new rudder and probably a new shaft...because I trusted this freakin Tactic radio system!!!!

Sorry to hear that. Its better that it happened now without further damage. Hope you find something worthy of your boat!

I ran a tactic for years in a 60 mph boat. NEVER had that ever happened to me. Even when the boat lost signal it would just stop.

              Usual disaster huh?

I'm a total spectrum slappy but I gotta tell ya....I've never witnessed a Tactic wig out. They have no features but they're usually rock solid.

What's the boats story? Carbon in your way?

It's a brand new TR324 controlled by a brand new 240 transmitter inside an Aeromarine Conquest...fiberglass. It was installed on the rear wooden structure with velcro and a good 6" from the ESC. Receiver was powered by a 2S 1300mah LiFe battery. I am really not sure what could have caused it to fail like it did.

I switched the 240 radio over to the 490 radio I had from the Aquacraft Rescue 17 and switched the throttle from channel 2 to channel 3...and it does shut down the esc on channel 3 when entering failsafe. I gave the Conquest another chance using the new transmitter and I was able to go out about 500 feet before it entered failsafe mode. I had to stand on a rock and hold the transmitter over my head to get it to respond and return to shore. I'm not sure I trust the receiver but I'm willing to test out the replacement when it arrives.

In the mean time, the only alternative I have is a Traxxas Tqi receiver and Tqi transmitter which seems to give me a 750-800 foot range.

When I first used them back in 2010, there weren't any issues, I had about 3 0r 4 boats that had them. All the ones I had issues were bought brand new in 2013 and 2014. They will not go into failsafe right away while usually the steering is already gone, almost ruined my JAE 21 FE rigger. Then my two hydros weren't as lucky, there sustained minor damage.
None of these boats have CF hull, BTW.

Anyone use the traxxas tqi radio and receiver? Seems to Be slightly better range over tactic and the failsafe works.

I will definitely be buying a quality radio over the winter… But for right now I just need something that works

I still don't understand what you got goin on with the tactic radio.
What radio and reciever are you currently using and how is it set up?

Receiver is a TR324 controlled by a brand new 240 transmitter inside an Aeromarine Conquest (fiberglass). Receiver is powered with a 2S 6.6v LiFe 1300mah battery. Failsafe is suppose to shut down the ESC ... but it just went to "last known position". Looking back on it, I still can't believe how lucky I was that my brand new Conquest didn't drive full throttle into a pile of rocks. It was just floating on the other side of the lake for a good 15 minutes until my friend arrived to help. I went to the highest point I could find, held the radio over my head and noticed that it moved. I stayed at about 20% throttle and watched as it came back from the other side of the lake...only damage was a bent rudder, broken rudder break away pin, bent prop and I'm guessing the shaft was pretty heavily abused.

The Life battery is going in the Battery port. Steering servo goes in channel 1. Throttle servo goes in channel 2.
After the crash, I switched from the 240 radio to the 490 radio and put the throttle in channel 3...fail safe works on channel 3.
Is this what you meant Luck?

I didn't want to risk it again so the receiver is in the trash and I'm waiting on the replacement from Hobbico. In the mean time, I'm going to give my FrSky Taranis a try in the next few days. It works very well for airplanes, helicopters and quads so it should work for boats. It has built in telemetry for voltage and RSSI (signal strength) so it should give me a warning before I loose control PLUS I am able to manually set the failsafe so I know it works. I wish FrSky made a surface transmitter...a pistol grip radio would be nice.
