Is there a low cost Rx / Tx that has decent range?

I only have one boat. I didn't want to spend $200 on a radio system for just one boat, so I purchased a Traxxas TQ. The range is adequate for what I'm using it for, but I was hoping to get a little further, and there was no travel adjustability, which I would have liked. I went ahead and bought a Flysky GT2b after reading the great reviews, including the great range it had. I get about 80ft. out and it cuts in and out repeatedly until I get a little closer. Is there anything out there that has proven range in a boat at say...... under $100 for a Tx/Rx combo? I don't need all the bells & whistles, I just want something I can bind, turn it on and go.

For $50 more: a Spektrum MR200 rx and a tx:http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...-sr410-SPM4200 would give you years of satisfaction.
You need to pull one antenna out of your hull per the Spktrum instruction to enjoy the full benefit, and if you have a CF hull, Travis here has a brilliant solution, I will let him tell you about it.
        With that said,
You have an unfortunate unit with the Flysky, I have a GT-3B that so far trumps all the radios on the water as far as range is concerned, but it is a cheap unit and I don't use it on my nicer boats just incase...
Too many boats, not enough time...

tightly packed outrigger, small receiver or long antenna would be a bonus. Maybe the flysky I received is problematic? I see a lot of people finding that the Tx have issues, causing range issues. I just don't want to receive another of the same if there are better options out there.

The Traxxas is great... Nice linear, clean acceleration & steering.... the Flysky seems a bit clunky, even right next to the boat. My luck would have it that I just received a bad unit.

Hmmm... I do love my spektrum dx6i for my planes & helli. $99 for a Tx & waterproof rx seems like a good deal. I may go ahead and purchase the spektrum, return the Flysky and sell the Traxxas and be done with it.
              Thanks!

How about using your DX6i, plenty of them being used in boats here.

I tried using it the first time I threw the boat in the water, and it ended up costing for a new motor & ESC. I can get my plane far enough away that I start having orientation issue, way, way far out there. I tried the receiver in my boat and it lost the signal after about 30 foot, no failsafe, WOT across the lake, got tangled in some weeds and burned everything up. The ESC was supposed to have an overheat shutdown as well, but it still went up in smoke. I was sure I read in the receiver specs that it had a signal loss failsafe, but lesson learned, should have tested it. I like the feel/control of the pistol grip transmitters a little more.

I did end up buying the spektrum from horizon. Wow, already shows tracking, and will be delivered tomorrow, that was super fast!

My spektrum works as far as I can see....once I learned both antennas need to be outside the hull. Watch this video I did Saturday and you can get an idea how far it goes (hint: you almost can't see it anymore lol)

Lol, that was the furtherest thing from my mind actually. But yea, no water my man even when it sits flipped over for a while. No reason to even do hatch tape when using this method. (Note, I stated several times I don't have blowovers. .and I dont...I had a funky prop that kept making it flip lol) i really wanted to show how far the radio goes. I've gone out of site once and panicked. ...I went up on the hill to gain sight again. Make no mistake, it would not go near this far until I put the secondary antenna out the hull. I have had 0 problems since. I was getting ready to toss the system and switch to something else. Op, you made a good choice. Even the cheapie dx2 series works well. I highly recommend coating your receiver with a thin coat of general purpose epoxy or liquid electrical tape.

A good radio is the futaba 3 pm-x. A lot of people have used them and you can find a bunch on ebay I think for 160$ shipped you can have one with rx. I have 2, one I got for 100$ shipped as it was lightly used, anyway I've never lost signal or had a glitch in 3 full seasons of running.
