I personally have seen the mod work on three different hulls including my own.

FC Cheetah Fail....
I just read where the owner did level the rear ride pad........the original thought from the first post is that no mod to it was done but seems like there was.....just sayin.
On a side note, my carbon cheetah ran perfect without touching the hull with a sanding block. Maybe only the fiberglass ones had an issue?Comment

We've modified two of them in our club. Mine was horrible without the mod. I've built a few cats now too Jay. I don't think it was a setup issue. There was a problem with mine. Changing the AOA made a difference on my boat. In the boats defense it may have been fine on 4s with a sane sized motor.
The bottom on the Cheetah is very similar to the bottom on the Aeromarine Sprint. I checked them side by side with a digital angle gauge. Even after the mod my Cheetah still has a steeper AOA on the last pad. That's not to say that they all suffer from the same thing.
Has it occurred to anyone that there may be more than one mold for the same boat? Maybe there is a slight difference between them.....or......maybe some were pulled from the molds too soon........or that maybe they fixed it? I found the issue on mine over a year ago.
This ain't NASA. A discrepancy from unit to unit is possible. Heck, probable.Noisy personComment

Wow.
What do I do? I have a new Cheetah to build soon.
I know I'm new to boats and in the final stages of buying all the bits to make mine a twin. At our Lakeside club in 6S ( 3S per side in Australia) are all Cheetahs except my Apparition . I'm pretty sure all have had the sponsor mod done and seems to make a difference according to the owners. There are 3 new Cheetahs being built up at this stage for 6S. One is a single and the other 2 will be twins. I'm pretty sure the other 2 will be thrown in the water with no mods.
I did see some unusual behavior from a twin Cheetah in the testing stage and once the sponsors were modded it was a lot better. In fact it's the fastest cat in 6s by a long way.
I think I will sit back and see how the other 2 will go. Certainly interesting topic.
P.S my back steps on mine are uneven by around 3mm . Should I at least even them up??
Cheers

I will try and do that for you before I hit the road tomorrow. I might just have time to take the pics on my way out the door tomorrow morning, and will try and post them once I get to my destination.Comment

I am seriously pissed I tried doing the sponson mod for a customer who was convinced the sponson mod is a must do and even convinced me to do this mod for him. The mod ended up getting finished on his end but with fluid coming out on this I would never of wasted any time on the mod. In fact I liked the cheeta well enough to consider buying one but fear of doing a "possibly " unnecessary mod had me go with aeromarine."Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... How is it that seeing a boat run well without the mod disproves that a lot of them do need the mod to run well? We're talking about Chinese made products here, right? Do you think that just maybe there's a chance that someone besides Jay knows what they're doing?Comment
