I would definately try them...I've had good luck with Hobbywing esc's...used them in hot EDF jets and have been using them in several of my 4S/6S boat setups.... DJ

Well I took it out of he box finally and a little confused... They say completely redesigned from the groin up(was a funny typo so I left it) up. It sadly only has one cooling tube so my thought it that it will run hotter...

Actually , in the testing I have done thus far, it runs the same temp as the older version so it appears they've maintained the performance with a less , more simplistic design. I have had really good test results so far on 4 cell. I'm pleased!

Ok, folks! I have passed this thread (along with another) to the North American Hobbywing team. If you would like to get an ESC this is where I get mine, my guy on that team does seem to like the idea of 240amp-ish ESC.

So is it improved and is the high burst somewhat true about the new 180esc?

I would never rely on any burst rating. I've always tried to keep those numbers from our product descriptions. The best setups I run, are always running at 70 percent of the rated capacities. I have boats that ive raced years ago that I can still clear off the dust and use today without issue. I did exactly that three weeks ago. I took out my df29 that uses a castle ice 120, its about three summers old and my go to boat for some fun on a Sunday. That esc is still running like a top.

Its not rocket science, push anything hard enough and it will fail.

I'm have one in my possession at the moment. Things I've noticed (some have not been mentioned)

                          -it's a good bit taller
                          -it's narrower and shorter length
                          -has a waterproofed on/off switch
-has a led indicator on it
                          -a good bit heavier
-the programming is done through three pins sticking out of it in the motor wire side
-has two small caps on the power wires and two small caps on the unit itself. I don't like the fact that you cannot change out the ones on the unit. The are encapsulated in epoxy
-the receiver wire is about 1.5 inches shorter than the v2
-has four blind holes (maybe 1/8" deep, not good in my opinion) to mount it. The old one has holes like that and ears on the side.
-does not have solder posts like the v2 (a big fat negative to me)
-the cooling block.....we'll it looks more suited to air cool it, not that the v2 is much better, but the V3 only has one tube going through it. It's offset to one side....I haven't looked where the fets are so I'm not sure if one side would run hotter than the other. Seems possible tho.

Overall it does look like a quality built controller. The extra height may be a deal killer in some applications. Comparison pics....

Travis tks man....If needed at least you can change the caps on the pwr leads (a good feature). I too am concerned about the single cooling line. I'm looking forward to finding out how they hold up to our kind of running on the edge setups IE: 6S 2200KV etc...or if you can do the 8S trick like I previously told you about (which I dont suggest to anyone who is afraid of the magic smoke gremlin).... i think im going to buy one for myself and make a couple cooling blocks for it like i did on my v2, it will be lower profile too which is a plus.
