    Frustrated

Hi all, after a long while since my cat has touched water due to hardware upgrades and other commitments, I decided to charge the batteries and head to my local lake today. The setup is an apparition with a leopard 4082 1600kv, 200amp swordfish esc, turnigy nanotech 5000mah 65-130c discharge running 6s, upgraded flex, s&b octura m447 and offset rudder. The issue I'm having is either running too wet, porpoising or wanting fly, with the best speed of 43 mph without a perfect run. I've tried bottom of strut level with sponson, higher, lower, positive and negative angle, batteries as far forward as 35% cog and as little as 30% ( can't go further back as lipo touches water outlet). I know there is more speed from this setup with a better setup hull. I'm frustrated and out of ideas for more speed and better running hull! Help!

It would help if you could post some video if you have it. Also, your prop may be on the larger side for 35,500 rpm, if your packs are (2) 3s in series they may not be up to the task for long, a smaller prop may let the rpm's get up a bit.

Prop is way too big for that boat. Get an X442 and an X445. Stock prop for that size boat is only 36 or 38mm I believe.

If I'm understanding correctly and think about it, the loaded rpm is not substantial enough to give good speeds with the m447… would I be correct in saying that?

Among other things, like overworking the motor, ESC, and batteries, possibly to the point of failure and going up in smoke. It may not be the only cause for your lack of speed, but it could be contributing. Regardless, I would prop down then start diagnosing.

I don't understand why folks think that an x447 is too big for the OP's motor. My Apparition knock-off ran almost 90 mph (not a GPS speed BTW) with a little Castle 1515/1Y on 6S/5000 and a P235 - a lot more prop that the x447. His loaded rpm will be around 30,000 if everything is running right, so he is around 12 mph slower than he should be. This isn't a big boat for 6S, it isn't tough to push. Something else is probably wrong.

His motor is a Y wind so he should be running 15 degrees timing advance. He needs to true the ride pads, some are concave and will suck the hull down. We need to see photos of the transom from back and side and pics of the interior. What are the temps after a run of WOT? What do the Swordfish logs say? In order to help we need a lot more information...and a video would be nice.

Forgive me, I keep thinking back to my DF Explorer when I ran that motor on 6s, pulling over 200 amps @67 mph, but it just occurred to me that I was running a 645, I was thinking it was a 445 for some silly reason, it's been a while since I had that boat. Fluid is right, brain fart, 447 is likely fine.

Is everyone assuming it's a 29" Geico or something?? He hasn't posted what boat it is, just that it's a cat. A LEo 4082 and a 1515 1Y are apples and oranges to me. The castle is more efficient I'd think??

Yes it's a apparition 32inch single drive cat. Timing is set to middle (there is no numerical timing increments) and temps are warm to the touch after 6-8 wot passes.... so I'm guessing prop is not the issue. I think it has more to do with strut height, angle and cog. In the meantime I'm trying to upload pictures of the setup.

He stated "apparition" in his first post. I looked up the specs- 800mm long x 240mm wide.

my daytona 37 is running same setup at 64 mph strut flat to table. using a m445 s&b. must be your boat.

So what I think I have gathered so far is the power plant is capable of delivering speeds in excess of 55mph+. I suppose it comes down to adjustment which i still have not hit on the head.… any help would be great, especially guys with an apparition who have been down this track before. I suppose the next question would be, is this hull capable and have the potential to handle those sort of speeds, or will I be chasing my tail for that almost perfect setup with constant blowovers and/or ploughing = Frustrating!

That was at a SAW event where I set two records running through traps. Most passes were in the 80s, I blew off once.
