Changing the hull bottom design and widening it should be enough but if your going to do it, may as well modify the top to. Then you can really call it yours. Considering your going as far to have a mould made. I would bet a lot of the hulls on the market started this way. What boat did you use to start this project, some pictures would be cool. With all the flat out copies on the market you have nothing to worry about. Perhaps you will get some good input for a canopy design change that would look cool.

How much different is the boat handling with the modifications? Has the wider tunnel affected running at speed? Just wondering what your goal is, a better handling boat for racing but sacrificing speed with a wider tunnel?

actually even if he is making it for himself, depending on the copyright and or patent, he can get in trouble. there was a big stink amongst the DIY community when a person made a copy of a vortech fish tank pump and actually got letter from the company stating he was in violation and could be sued even though it was made only for his personal use. i know someone said not to bring that up, but id hate to see a person with good intentions get burned. seeing it is a modified bottom and widened, it does not apply, but i felt i should put this out there.

I haven't had a chance to gps it yet..but it doesn't seem to affect the top speed..but the boat is way more stable in corners and rougher water

Good luck with the boat, you may not find what your looking for here. Your playing in a grey area, doing the mould yourself is one thing but asking others to get involved is another. Try and come up with your own top design with the reconfigured bottom. I do see a lot of knock off boats here but it isn't often discussed and is definitely frowned upon. Another forum would be your best bet.
