I read on the Spartan section that you mention salt water, if your getting salt water in your boat this is much worse than getting fresh water in the boat re shorts etc in the electrics.

Yes, saltwater is more conductive of memory serves. I use a lot of bearing oil, corrosionX, and the famous WD-40---Why are you bothering me? I want to see your boat!

I to run exclusively on salt water, you need to make boats running on salt water 100% water tight. I see a fair few friends electrics go up in smoke due to them not making mods to their boats to keep them dry. Needless to say all boats need to be kept dry whether running on fresh or salt water but fresh water is more forgiving if water does get into the boat.Comment

I don't know how well a spartan would take to making modifications or if it would be worth it. Keeping things simple on that type of boat would probably be best. Running hv and wire drive is far better suited to a fiberglass hull then retrofitting something that was designed to be run as it is out of the box. Have you thought of stepping up into a better suited hull if these are your goals?Comment

The Spartan hardware isn't bad. Why not slap all that gear onto a Delta 35 or an Ariane? Much happier at those speeds. Easier to seal up. Probably faster on the same setups too. Just losing the flex of a plastic hull will increase speed.Noisy personComment

I have thought about some of the Aero-Marine hulls, but I am not a expert in boat build....lol
In fact if I could do it over again i would have either OSE of Kintec just build one!
I may just go back to the stock system (trying to work a deal with someone) and run it on 5s with the wiredrive setup.
Main reason I picked a Spartan: 50+ MPH on the box, wish I would of knew what I was getting into--- I did get the V2 so I thought I would be covered)
Second reason: Aftermarket parts that are made specifically to fit the hull.
Third reason: Traxxas, they have a home office in Texas (I am in TX) and I would rather support someone that is close by over china boat.
To now think of it, I should of gotten a MG29, sold all the stuff inside, put Spartan stuff in there, and been just fine. (Future plan by the way)lolWhy are you bothering me? I want to see your boat!

Pretty much all of the off the shelf boats are from China. Even though Traxxas is close by.
The AM 33" Titan would be a great choice for the motor that comes in the Sparty. The Aeromarine hulls are built here in the states if you're after that. Titan 33 is a sweet driver too.
If you decide to try your hand at putting one together we'll help ya through it. Lots of pictures of how to do it here on OSE. Plus there are some really sharp guys right there in TX. Of course that doesn't mean they're anywhereclose by. I mean Texas IS bigger than many whole countries.
Keep cruising this site and you'll learn how to put one together weather you want to or not. Someone is always building something and snapping pictures along the way.
Most of us started with an off the shelf runner. My first was a ton crappier than the Sparty too.Noisy personComment

I know most of them are from China but it helps that they at least are based in TX... I have looked through a lot of threads, even before mine. I remember a while back that there was a hull with a self righting feature because it had flood channels, kind of likin' that feature! I may try a custom build, I just enjoy being able to charge, run, clean... I have always liked V styled hulls over the skaters/Cats. Considering I live on the lake, and in a particular area where the Texas Outlaw Poker Run Challenge I am almost sure I would be able to find a fellow boater nearby!
We all start with the Walmart boats that we run in the pool/ditch! lol
I am down by Kemah (Theme park with a Speedboat named The Beast!) Link below if anyone is slightly curios....
On the ESC subject though--Anyone hear how those 300 amp Swordfish controls run? Not that I NEED that much power but going for reliability.
I just ordered a new stock motor, I am officially going back to 4s, secret is- I will run in parallel so I get long fun time! Anybody want two 3s SPC lipos that have been used 3 times (without flipped over boat) for a $90 shipped in the U.S.?Last edited by Spartanator; 04-17-2014, 12:30 AM.Why are you bothering me? for reliability on a 4s setup in that boat, you cant beat the t180 you had. just stop letting it get wetHPR 135 redemption, HPR C5009, modded zelos 36, 32 boats and counting.
Flier ESC dealer, pm me for details.

The T180 on 4s really is reliable. We have some guys running the Seaking version in our club and they like them. I have a T120 I've not run yet.
I drove a Spartan with a Leopard motor that someone put together locally. I don't remember the exact setup though. With a lot of power you can almost feel the boat bending as you laid into the throttle. It's plastic. I just didn't like it. Reminded me of the plastic boats I used to form myself.
The Titan is a much easier driver IMO. We ran one on 32 volts back years ago. Silly to think of that now.
Heck, a Pursuit would be a good option too now that I think about it. Too small if you went back to 6s though.Noisy personComment

Thanks, I also picked up a stock ESC. I have noticed the Spartan hull squeaks when you pick it up. I do like it because it's easy to work on.
The reason I wanted a hull this size is to handle chop, it's going to be my "retired" poker runner on 4s... Lol
I think this is a perfect hull for 5s
Afterthought--- 5s, will be somewhat reliable and a bit faster. I expect 45 with the stock prop, any suggestions or stay stock? I expect a solid 40-43MPH with stock on 5s...Last edited by Spartanator; 04-17-2014, 11:11 AM.Why are you bothering me? I want to see your boat!

No regrets! I have a leopard 4082 and t-180 with a wire drive. Never let me repeat NEVER have seen this boat flex or bend. IMO im starting to like abs over fiberglass. My dad drove my aquacraft motley crew. He hit the wall of the pond doing literally 1-2 mph MAX. Took out the whole tip of the sponsen.. Also if this boat (mc) blows over at 50+ mph the fiberglass is toast, unlike my spartan....
Spartanator... You are the biggest flip flop ive ever talked to lol. now your going backwardsComment

PRE-Waterproofed ESC options?
I just figured I give the stocker system another chance which will most likely turn out in mistake... Then again I may have one heck of a boat! Lol!
I have not seen the hull flex but it does squeak once loaded with lipos... I also ordered a wire drive from Wholt. Maybe by Wednesday I will be running with the stock cable since wholt takes a while. I do like and over fiberglass but then again all I have used is ABS...
I think I will have some bullets to put on the Leo motor to fit the stock ESC. If not I will just have a hull with electronics that only needs a few parts...
I do feel 5s will be a stretch for the stock ESC but maybe it will turn out good. Why are you bothering me? I want to see your boat!
