well, i'm sorry to say that the esc didn't hold up again.............went up in smoke big time!!! but for the 10 minutes i had it running it was ripping up the water! a couple of times it wanted to flip over when i got on the throttle. the expo was at around 75 percent throttle and it was ballistic. i tried it once at 100 percent for a tab bit and it was animal!! don't know what went wrong but it looks like i'm in the market for a HYDRA 240 esc soon. talked to Tunda today through pm's and he's going to help me with a set up i can play with that works. don't know if i'm going to continue playing with 6s lipos all the time, mostly 4s. got to say, even with the burning of the 2 esc's so far...............it's a blast to drive these things on the water.
thanks Tunda for offering your help on my build..............talk to you soon.

If the above statment means you where runninng at 75% throttle then that's your problem. Speed controllers should be treated like a switch. You should be either @ full power or off the power all together. Small drops in throttle for hull attitude correction are fine. When the esc is running below full power for an extended time it will build more heat than if wide open. I really dont know the exact reason for it but I was educated to the fact by a person who has forgot more about power systems then I ever hope to learn.
In short prop down and hold her wide open.

i was at 75% out of 125% on my spectrum dx-3 3.0 radio. i don't see why that setting would be contributed to me burning up my esc. i think i was just running too much voltage, too much amps for my esc to handle and improper prop size.
just for comparison, my electric on-road race cars have different settings also. my brushless team magic e-4 is running at 100% out of 125% for small tracks. it's geared for quick take off's coming out of turns and controllable speed when hitting the straight's. the esc in there is a LRP Sphere comp. brushless esc. when we run during our test and tune days i hold it for 10 minutes straight going non-stop and the temps stay about 140 degrees after the run.
thanks for your input though, much appreciate it. i really feel that i was running too many volts, amps, too big props for my set ups. needless to say, i went with the SV brushless set up in the hydro and on 4s it runs really great. gives my friend with his SV and run for the money. it's all about having fun. thanks again.

Hey RYDEFAB, what were the specs for your last burned up setup? I would like to see by how much you were owerpowering your ESC. What was the motor Kv, prop size/type, battery capacity, max ESC voltage/amperage and whether you used stuffing tube grease?
You may think what ever you want. I know for a fact you can't run a brussles esc like that with out it eventually failing. Thats not an opinion just how it is. .

You cant use cars and trucks as a comparison to boats. They are geared, draw way less amps & there are a host of other factors that come into play. When I started in boats I waisted hundreds of dollars burning up my car motors, esc's & then boat equipment trying to employ what I learned in cars. What I finally leared was just to listen to the guys on the board.
Either way as long as your havin fun that's all that matters.

gonna bring my thread i started up again . got an extra mamba monster esc/motor combo that i was going to use in my Losi 8B brushless conversion. gonna throw this thing in the hydroplane and try it out. 6s lipo power..................kinda want to see what kind of mph it can get.
wish me luck!!!!!!!

Dude, you will burn it up...
that is way too much voltage for a Mamba w/o gearing...
just a thought.
:::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::
wuzup guys i have a list of questions that you might be able to help me with..
1-does OSE offer a motor mount that will work for the MV?
2-do i need to change the drive shaft?
3-what is a good motor and esc (not too expensive) for it?
4-what do you guys think of Carbon Filled Propellers?
5-what hull is better, the UL-1 or the miss vegas?
guys, thanks in advance im new to this hobby and love me an electric hydro.
1- Yes
2- No
3- Some run the 9XL with a hydra 240 (or a similar alternate)
4- Suck. Just kidding, nt good for high power/high thrust applications
5- IMO they both are nice.

thank you so much for replying ser!
i would get the ul-1 just so i dont have to go through all the work of converting.
the thing is that i like the hull of the miss vegas but dont wanna have to go through soo much work of converting her. and im just A FEW DOLLARS short from purchasing the ul-1 on OSE. IF THERE IS ANY1 HERE THAT WILL ACCEPT $300 shipped FOR THE UL-1 HOLLER AT ME!

Hey Genettico how was the stability at 63 mph ? Mine is a dream at 50 but a handfull at 60. I run a 1521 1.5 d motor , 240 hydra and m545 prop with 22 volts.
PT-45, 109mph, finally gave up after last bad crash
H&M 1/8 Miss Bud 73 mph
Chris Craft 16 mph

hey gary what hulls are you guys running? just curious..
I run the Miss Vegas. I modify the bottom by cuting out the hump and make it flat and thats about it. I know i should run a better hull but the Vegas is cheap on ebay. I have wrecked 3 of them over time and only paid a couple hundred bucks for them bare so there very cost efective, and there even painted!!! I have my heart set on a 1/10 miss bud but at 470.00 bare hull that could easily be wrecked its not worth it. With 24 volts this thing is insane and i know it will go 65 as soon as the water softens up. By the way if you need a 8 or 7 xl i have them cheap. 8 xl did 54 mph with 18 volts. PS My boat will consistently go 50 mph all day on 2- 7.4 volt batts and a 1521 1.5d motor, 240 hydra. It will however NOT go faster than that no matter what prop is on there..i run a m545. It will go consistent 60 mph {good conditions}on 2- 11.1 batts but she is a handfull!!! It will walk hard to the left and lift the left sponson if you dont excelerate slowly at first and then go full throttle. She will do some great cart wheels LOL
