We are thinking about moving into a larger house. We can get one off the lake cheaper. I'd like to have a lake behind me for the view and to be able to run my boats whenever. However.... In my personal experience, you get a holes that have nothing better to do with their time than to ruin other people's fun and complain about stuff that other people do. So my question is, who has a lake behind their house they run their boat in and has not had issues with neighbors complaining and who has had neighbors complaining. I'm gonna be pretty ticked off if I pay extra for a lake lot and all I get to do is look at it lol.
Who has a pond/Lake behind their house in a neighborhood and runs their boat in it?

Mine is in a farmers field in front of my house. There's only room for launching 1 boat at a time (it's an "interstate lake") due to the steep sides.
Does that count?
Not many neighbors in our town, they all mind their own business, and having some electric fun is not going to be a problem. Shoot, if I showed up with a nitro burner they'd probably all come out to watch!
Think Mayberry.

You seem to run into this wherever you go. I used live by the water and it really depended on what was happening if people complained. It really depends on the neighbors and the activity on the water and if it is private or not. When I lived on the river, the neighbors were all loud partiers, drinking and doing their own thing. Of course that was in the '70s and '80s and there wasnt a whole lot of laws against drinking while driving a boat either! As long as you weren't over 90 db you were generally ok by the PA Fish and Game Commission (River Patrol as we used to call them). Only a few people had RC back then. But the Jet boats and V drives were much louder than our RC boats are.
One thing to watch out for - Flood Insurance. Only so many carriers besides the Govt can sell it, and you would probably be required to carry it. Back in the "70s my parents paid close to $1000 in coverage/year for the house.Steve MitchellComment

My bud Sean and I got asked to leave a community lake because our FE boats were to fast and LOUD ...I was amazed, that all it took was one J/A ....we also run in a trout stream behind were we live with no probs plus numerous other community lake and ponds NO prob....If there is already boats around the lake, I cant see how anybody can say anything....be good idea to check community charter, community association etc.... I had that situation with a gas boat. I switched to FE thinking it would be more accepted. The borough that we got kicked out of said no gas, just electric. Maybe they're in for a surprise! I have another location that I can run, but I had a complainer last year there. So that's my story. I saw a thread (maybe it was one I started, i dont remember) that the electric 1/8 scale that Don Ferette had was around 80 db, which is slightly louder than a conversation.Steve MitchellComment

I live on saltwater but I run my boat in canal behind my house all the time. Never had a complaint and many neighbors love it and come out to watch. Going to just depend on particular lot you choose and who your neighbors end up being. Good luck tho as it sure is convenient for me to just have to walk out to my dock and run my boats!Comment

I had a place at an electric only lake. I never had a direct intervention from the locals but none of them could believed my boats were electric. Had to show them. They were not thrilled. Once I got a sense for how dangerous it was running my 50mph boats on a lake with residents here there everywhere on their pontoons, playing on their beaches, etc.......I quit running there.Noisy personComment

I live on a lake with neighbors on both sides. Get to know them a bit before you start playing with the toys. Run during sensible hours, and use common sense when running e.g. not running boats when people, dogs, or other full size boats are in the immediate area. Most people that live on a lake are there because they enjoy the recreation that comes with living on a lake. Don't abuse your share of use by running your boats for hours at a time.Comment

Kfxguy, I must be the luckiest guy in the world. I have 40 acres with a 3 acre bass pond. Thats why I got into FE boats a couple years ago. Go to PondBoss.com There are literally thousands of private pond owners in this country. This site and monthly magazine is a place to manage private waters. You will get more bang for your buck if you back off any lake front water in the US and go private. I have a couple you tube videos, go to p-spec hydro at Cordy's Pond.

Sure bro, the residential neighborhoods in the treasured valley are dotted with ponds that we take advantage of. This is the pond 5 minutes from home, that I use as a test an tune pond & for small or slow boats...
Here's th eee big pond I found just up the street in the Cayuse creek subdivision, while I was out on a short scooter ride in January. Its even got 2 fountains and is perfect for my mean machine and my hydro's that eat up a lot of real estate...
I rarely have a complainer, but then again, being a big evil scary looking biker guy has its advantages. All the kids and their puppy dogs love me and the boats. Good PR for me

I have a nice spot at the end of my road, couple hundred yards away.
I find it odd how much trouble you guys in the states have finding places to play, any piece of water that is owned by the crown is game for us, not much is privately owned. Really can't even be shut down for noise before 11 pm.
I've run nitro boats in the lake right in the middle of downtown with no problems from the law.
Living in Cottage Country there are more places to run boats than any other type of rc vehicle, water every where!
Pretty much find a public boat launch and you can play without hassles. If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?Comment

I'm on the lake, not too many people mind me running my Spartan. A lot of my neighbors are Poker Runners so they get the idea! I have had one old lady (no offense to your wifes...lol) gripe at me because I was "too close" to where she was varnishing her rag sail boat, she said that I was causing a large wake with my Spartan! I simply ignored her, they have moved out so I am in the clear!
This is the "canal" that leads to the lake... I think that's VERY funny, large wake with my toy boat??!!!?
Why are you bothering me? I want to see your boat!
