thats nice, have to check one of those out myself....another cheap supposedly waterproof option is the garmin gecko...got a couple of them off ebay for 25$ and they work great....only thing is if you have alot of CF it blocks the sat signal and then you have to mount on outside of hull..which we have done numerous times now with no probs....DJ

I've thought of mounting the Garmin on the outside of my CF hulls (conductive materials interfere with GPS, radio, ect.), but at SAW speeds...I should say "crashes"...I rather not.

I like the size of the voltron unit I think I'll look into it. I just bought a new camera and some other stuff so I will have to wait a little bit to get one.

No, it or any other GPS will not work inside a CF hull.

The pill bottle? Jeff at Herzog sells them that way. Also comes with a bracket you could mount in a hull to hold the bottle.

tks for info, alot of the boats we run have at least some cf in them. Got me thinking on how to rig external ant/rcvr ....Ive got a radargun, but its dangerous because the boats have to be too close to it for accuracy.....DJ

Yeah, I've done the radar gun too...agreed it's dangerous and I'm often alone at the pond. I've used several GPS units, Sky RC, Voltron, Garmin, Hobbyking, Eagle Tree. The Voltron is by far the most versatile with it's small size, accuracy, and range of voltage inputs. The Garmin 201 is great also.

I tried my GPS today in the hull. No go lol. I had to Velcro it to the top of my boat. I used a tether in case it came off. Yea I was nervous because I already lost one lol. It held on for a few 60+mph passes
