I see this is a widely discussed topic on many rc forums with home remedies involving shunts and multi meters. But my question is is there anyway to modify a watts meter already on the market ? Or even someone willing to make me two recorded high amp loggers for me? With all the high amp r's especially boats I'm shocked that there isn't any 200-300 amp rated loggers out there. Help
high amp. data logger?

Very easy to modify an Eagletree to measure up to 300 amps. I haven't done it but a buddy of mine has
Not positive of the details but I do know he found the info for the mods online, maybe even on here.
Pretty sure if memory serves you just install a shunt across the positive and negative leads of the logger. I know no dis-assembly(sp?) was required and it only took a few minutes. I think the recalibration might have taken him longer than the actual modification.
Been a couple of years since Ken did this and his ET was still working fine at the end of last season.
He might have posted about it, user name is Kendt. Do a search and you may find his postings. If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps? -
I posted it years ago here. I have recorded as high as 325 amps and it still works.

Thanks for running this thread AGAIN guys...
I have just ordered two set-ups for my HPR and will be making the same mod...
On the accuracy note... Surly... if you measure the IR of the logger and match that with the shunt, you'll get a more accurate reading?
I have an electrical engineer friend that will work on it with me so I will report back....HPR C-5009, Riptide48, PaynPak 1/12, Miss Budweiser 1/8 Hydro, Miss Freya (own design 1/8 Hydro), HOR 32, Twin 380 HOR 32, Magin oneComment

If you do not care much about recording rpm, this is a very good and accurate option:

I have seen folks using strings of lights but I'm not sure that's a very accurate method????
I do have some kit at work that I can load them with but doing "home jobs" is prohibited! :-/
