I just ordered a 4074 2200kv Leopard for my H/K Smash Shark to race next year. Had to get the matching water jacket and motor ring. All from OSE here. It's the best upgrade for your $$$ I feel. I think H/K do do a motor but I wanted something in the middle hence the Leopard.
I'm new to this too but at the end of the day RTR gear is good for running around but not race grade i feel. -
Does hobbyking make a good upgrade motor for pursuit?
Good question, you could give the aquastar 3974 2200kv motor a go. I was running one on 4s in a rigger until the motor mount broke out and bent the shaft making it useless. It will push a 442 all day.
I'm currently running a TP power 3640 2250kv in my pursuit, and race with that against gassers on club days, beats them a lot too!NZMPBA 2013, 2016 Open Electric Champion. NZMPBA 2016 P Offshore Champion.

I'm using this in both my boats - for the price it has been excellent.

do they have anything comparable to the 4082 in 2200kv for a boat steve at ose said 40mm would have better torq seen a aqua star 3900kv most of what im seeing in 2200kv is 36mm may try one of the 36mm sugested they are alot cheaper than the leapard and might be able to use factory water jacketComment

This is comparable to a leopard from HK: 3974 2200kv
This is closer and faster possibly and better customer service: Tacon You can use a Leopard cooler.
For the best customer service and the biggest bang for the buck Leo 4082-2200kv: OSE! 1.5Y
Don't think just about HK or price, the motors Steve sells at OSE are specifically boat motors with air venting to aid cooling and a free cooler to boot. You couldn't get a better deal with his kind of service anywhere with the exception of maybe ML Boatworks, Keith Bradley boats and a few others that work hard and go the extra mile while supporting fellow countrymen.Nortavlag Bulc

If you want to run 4 and 5s I would recommend 1800kv motor. You would still need to prop accordingly though. I had a HK 4074 2000 kv in mine and later upgraded to a castle 1515 1y and the difference was really noticeable . Just remember its a 30-50 dollar motor for a reasonComment
