"99.95% of all 700 brushed motors we run in boats are born of cordless drills"
Dont forget about cordless routers lol!
Simon, if you have never installed brush coolers I would have Steve do it for you. If you over heat the plastic around the tabs to much you will lose brush tension.Comment

I have a 26" oval master with a X637 prop spun by a brush only watercooled ss-1 (700) on 19.8volts that out runs many brushless setups and it comes in after a 3 minute run at 97 F. I havn't run a 700sc but I have been told they are nearly identical."Discussion is an exchange of knowledge; an argument, an exchange of ignorance." Robert QuillenComment

8.4bb
The Graupner 8.4bb isnt a bad motor
I hold the MMPBC record at 61.8kmh with a Campbell Classic Hydro, graupner 8.4bb and 12 nimh cells
I smoked my SS1 and needed a motor in a hurry and got a Graupner from HPM
brush cooling as a minimum cooling requirement.Comment

I have used Graupner 8.4V motors by choice. I race them in spec classes against the SS1's and 700SC's and I don't find my boats any slower than the others. I think the Graupner performs better with smaller props and a bit less load than that for the SS1. I never had any heat issues with my motors until last race. I burned up one and the other was getting pretty hot to. I have no idea why other than that I had sprayed contact cleaner in both motors the night before. I had not changed my set ups which I had raced countless times before without problems.
