You can get a 2x2twill type weave fiberglass and use black pigment in the resin and get a good look. Its available on eBay, you will have to do a search as I can't recall the seller.

CF does stiffen better but a good twill like Fella said will strengthen it. Any pics of what you mean by mounts look iffy?

Simple answer, yes. Fiberglass works just fine.

Done two in fiberglass no problems, IMO not worth the extra price for carbon, just more bling to impress the masses. I actually like the fact you can't see the 'glass in the hull.....
If I do something that will damage the hulls with glass then carbon wouldn't have made any difference anyway, just be more expensive pieces to gather up....
Now if you could actually vacuum bag the carbon into the hull then I think it would make more of a difference. The way we install the cloth doesn't really get the most out of the carbon OR fibreglass. Most of the ones I've seen the cloth is floating is a puddle of resin.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Look for s-glass. It's about the same price as e-glass but 30% stronger.

Op, you can get a yard of cf shipped for about 20 bucks. Not so sure you could call that expensive. You need a link to buy it, let me know.

What kind of CF are you going to get for $20????
I doubt it. Unless this is one of those secret high profit products that everyone else sells.

I should say, it may be possible that a finer/lighter weave may be offered there KFX, do you have the particulars or some of it yet?

Yes I do have some. 5.9oz and 6oz. I have a tight weave twill and a tight weave regular pattern. Been paying close to $20 a yard shipped.

The CF gets its strength from the heavy course twill. Same would be from FG

Im not sure what your experience with cf is, but I'd rather have 2-3 thin layers that conform better and the resin soaks in better than one thick heavy layer. Three thin is stronger than one thick. It also is easier to work with and looks better. Just my experience
