    MHZ 1140mm Catamaran

Hi. I am about to order a new MHZ 1140mm Cat hull but I am undecided regarding the motors and the drives. I´m not sure whether to buy the MHZ drives or the MBP ´Click Drive¨. They both cost roughly the same as I understand the Click system do not require the flex safety to stop loss of prop etc. Does anyone have experience with these two systems? Would the Hor Racing 3/16th aluminum stinger be a no, no? It´s a lot, lot cheaper.

With regard to motors I was thinking of leopard 4082/ 2200Kv or Leopard 4065/ 1800Kv in conjunction with Turnigy 180amp esc´s. MHZ suggest I use their Scorpion motor HK-3026/2300 Marine. Any thoughts anyone?

    Thanks

Questions..... I presume the hull is the 45" Mystic C5000M?....Dual motors and ESC's.....what S rating?....proposed props and rotation?.....anticipated speed and run time?.....or will it be a single drive?.....your budget?

      wouldn't buy the outrunners.

      Buy this motor as a 3Y. http://www.tppowerusa.com/motors/bui...series/tp-4050

Drives, up to you. Click drives are cool but I would get the mhz drives. I have bent my click unit on my mystic in a crash so if you're going to go fast and crash a lot the mhz drives might be better for you. Props start x447 see where you end up after watching temps. Drives are extremely important, every part has a purpose on these boats and are of importance. Think of it this way. A big full size boat is heavy an has big props spinning at much lower rpm. You're rpm is theres to the ^nth power and think about how precise drives must be on full size race boat. Your drives have to be like a surgeons tool if you're after very high speeds. Ok you're not doing surgery with you're boat but you get the idea lol. The hor drives are fine up to a certain point. I went the same route and put hor drives on an mhz hull, it ran ok...or so I thought until i bought click drives. These boats are really just incredibly powerful and cheap parts will give you a headache, stuff will come loose bc of poor tolerances and the list goes on...

Escs- Idk, the seaking is a proven setup but I hate how they look. I would give the swordfish 220/300 6s esc a try. Make sure to have packs of atleast 40C, zippy 45c will work if you have more $ skip gens ace and go dinogy.

        Thanks for the replies.

I will be using two motors and ESc. Will decide on the props when I make a decision on the motors. Like most people, I think with a model like this you would like it as fast as possible, but then I think you have to be realistic. There is a point when you just hit a small stick in the water or a little rough water and that´s it. Run times aren´t that important to me. It´s the build first, run second and then trying to improve on the performance after. I find it a little frustrating when people post videos on You Tube with their boats running without pictures of their set up and details of them.

I had a feeling that the Hor would be okay but the extra spent might be a saving in the end so I think from I have heard I will go with the Mystic drives as I also get the feeling the Click model will be like a dishwasher with 35 programs. Once you have set it up you, use the same setting all the time.

Thanks to you both for your help.

That boat can run 80 mph all the time even when with light wind. 100+ mph is when things start getting tricky. You're right once you find a setup you like things don't change much at all. good luck with the build man, definitely document the build on here if you can.

the mystic and hpr boats are pretty amazing, if built with the right materials you will be able to crash at high speeds over and over again. I think when you get going with the build the guys in the build section will help out a lot they helped me.

Have you decided on a lipo sled system or something? holding the lipos in is a struggle for a lot of people who go fast, modelbaupirate sells a lipo sled system that looks great

            Thanks for your reply.

I would like to build quite a bit of the parts myself as I think a lot of the builds on this site just show people sticking pieces together they have bought rather than made (bet that´s upset a few people (lol)) so I thought I would have go at making the lipo holder. Had a look at the modelbaupirate site and have seen the video, but still not quite sure how it works, but I think I can come up with an idea but looking at the cost of Carbon fibre sheet not sure if it would be any cheaper, but that´s not always the point.

I have also been considering building a mono boat hull from scratch details previously have been posted on this site by Pulsar and his friends, Details are http://forum.modelarji.com/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=81949 http://forum.modelarji.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=77393 Do you know about this plan and how easy difficult it is to build and more so what the end result is?

            Many thanks

Hi there, i personally have the HPR115 fairly similar... there's loads you can build yourself on these boats

if you look down here (i know they are hpr115's but gives you an idea) http://hpr06.speedtoy.com/setup.htm

also a build worth looking at (press catamaran on the left) http://translate.googleusercontent.c...hItApgpdBLpY2w
              Hpr 06 / 09 / 150 /185, Mhz Skater H45 hydro.

Click drives for sure. Lehner 2250's and YGE Navy 160's or MGM's. Costly but can't go wrong.

Thanks for the info gents. Just waiting for a price on laser cutting plywood to see what the cost is. Will make a decision then on whether to build a hull or buy it.

Iriderbike. You recommend the http://www.tppowerusa.com/motors/bui...series/tp-4050 motor. I need to buy products from the EU as I live in Spain. (Any import from outside of Eu is charged 21% Tax plus an additional 4 to 17% depending on product plus cost of paperwork!!!) I have found TP motors on this site http://mbp-rc.de/TP-40-series_1 but there are several different Tp 4050 models. Can you tell me which one, if any of these you are suggesting. Thanks

id go with the motor above and send an email to them and ask when they'll be back in stock. Starting on 4s packs and she'll still move. What are your speed goals? You could always go with a lower kv motor if you want longer run times, of course lower top speed but a more friendly setup on batteries and escs.

How timely as I have just ordered the hull and some other basic parts so it was nice to hear having looked at the thread that these two guys were happy with their purchase.
Could I ask a big favour of you can you look on their website http://stores.ebay.co.uk/S-A-Hobby-Center and advise what I should buy from motor to propeller. I have no idea as to motor size, coupler collet, drive shaft, strut or stinger, prop size etc. I already have one SEAKING 180amp Esc and will buy another as this is to be a two motor set up unless you say I need a different Esc. Please feel free, anyone else, who would like to advise, it´s always fun spending someone else´s money!! Promise to put the build on the forum.

                            Cheers

Hi Andrew, I have the same boat and I like it a lot. I have not started my build yet but I can give you my thoughts on it so far. Its very nicely finished on the outside and comes in primer (no gel coat), almost ready for paint! The pictures on eBay don't so it justice at all. Comes very well packaged and would be very difficult to damage in shipping. The entire hull layup is very thin. It will need to be reinforced from bow to transom including the top deck and hatch. There is no doubler for the transom at all, I am using 5mm cf sheet. I plan on using 3 layers of cf for the hull, sglass and Kevlar for the topdeck and hatch (for GPS and running rx with no external antenna, hopefully!). So you can see that while being a relatively inexpensive hull the cost adds up quick with the reinforcing that must be done. You could just use fiberglass cloth and a plywood transom doubler to but be prepared that there isn't anywhere that doesn't require reinforcing!. That said, it's a beautiful boat and all details on it are very well defined. The hull is very straight and the hatch to top deck fit is just about perfect.
The quality of it is very good, would have been excellent if it came strong enough to run as is.
If you are prepared to do the above mentioned work you will be very happy with your purchase. They captured the scale look of p1 fountain very well and I would buy the boat again. I don't think there is anything else on the market even close for the money but again the extra work required to make this boat ready for the water offsets the original low price of the hull by a long shot. Alfa spirit and Adelaide both have started build threads and are both in paint. Alfa has selected a nice drive combination if you plan on twins. I will be using a tp5660 820kv on 10s for my build. I am still recovering from surgery but hope to start a build thread in the next couple of weeks. I've been looking at this for far to long and can't wait to start, have fun with your build!
