I would pick up the Turnigy 3xs. I"ve been researching radios the last couple of days & i was actually in the process of ordering a 3XS, when I got an offer on an airtronics m11 4 channel . The 3xs appears to be a much better radio, and has a lot of features the 3C does not, especially channel mixing .

There's a heck of a deal on an airtronics m8. I am surprised no one has bought it to put a 2.4 module in it

I do too, and I can't get any range from them. I took them out of my boats and put them back in my buggies/truggies and went back to my Airtronics airplane stick controller 2.4ghz...........when I think of range, thats what I am looking for

You must have excellent eye sight!
I never had any problem with the FlySky GT3B, before that I will only use Spektrum as I like their marine receivers which are water proof/resistant, no need to balloon or seal them in a bag.
Interestingly enough both the Spektrum and the Tactic had similar range ( long enough for me) and reacts to the same Bermuda Triangle in my pond. Marine receiver (Spektrum) antennas were set up per instruction.
FlySky has no problem over that area, and I never had the firmware issues because I have a habit of writing every boat's trim /settings down, so I don't rely on the model memories.
Anyway, I am not advocating the FlySky, infact I bought it out of curiosity for my land based vehicles and only recently began using them on my boats.
In the pre-2.4 ghz days I only used Futaba, so I can understand why every time when this discussion comes out, there are people who would point out only Futaba for them, or, Airtronics for that matter.
Here is a question: do you need some kind of "converter/adaptor" for airplane stick controller to work with boat based ESC/s ?

I don't know why, perhaps its the CF boat hull, but I have absolutely NO LUCK with the Tactic or the FlySky. I have placed them in different locations inside the hull to no eval. As far as using my stick trans with marine escs goes, no adapter or special downloads were needed

That's great, thanks for letting me know.
As far as CF boat hull is concerned, it is known to cut down range, the Tactic has internal antenna so I am not surprised, I have FlySky in CF hull, but I extend the Antenna as far out as I can, seems OK in my case. Anyway, just saying...

I think a Flysky receiver setup with a traxxas villain whip antenna would be kool. I think the old skool scale look of the villain antenna is vintage cool.
