Just wondering if the 4082/4092 motors are to long and heavy to be secured through the front of the can, or better to use the mounts with the front and read rings?
Mounting 4082/4092

I have a 4082 and personally I wouldn't leave it unsupported at the rear. It's just so bulky in case of a flip/crash. I'm not at home so can't show photo's at the moment of my setup but my cooling jacket took up most of the can length and left no room for a clamp ring. I made a support out of 1/8 cf sheet.
Not based on science but I think it needs it.
Can post photos later if needed.Wisdom is knowing how little we know -
Here is what I did with my 4092 and long cooler. I made the mount and put the tale ring around the screws at the end bell.

I agree if left unsupported damage will occur iv'e seen it 1st hand , even with smaller motorsComment

Proof of fact, I have a 3974 aquastar motor in my rigger. The motor is mounted on the front end bell alone. It has been ok all year, no problems, until.... yesterday it stopped two laps into the race. Post mortem revealed a snapped flex and the motor mount had broken clean out of the epoxy. I don't know what went first, the mount or the flex though. I'll be rethinking the motor mount however, fortunately the damage is minimal.NZMPBA 2013, 2016 Open Electric Champion. Update, motor is stuffed. The endbell pulled on the mounting screws damaging the holes and the shaft is bent. I'll need anew motor and I'll have to make a better mount for this boat. Conclusion, don't mount bigger motors just on the shaft end and leave the other end unsupported!

As mentioned in my earlier reply above this is how I solved the issue of not having enough space
to mount the traditional clamp ring, thus using a support cut out of CF sheet. 4.2mm / .165" , a bit overkill, but strong enough

Mulisha, there are some great looking motor mounts in this thread already but here's what I did with my 4082 in a BJ29.
