Really looking into brushless just to see what kind of power package I can put together for under $150.00 Was wondering how outrunners do in boats say on 4s (assuming the kv was high enough) noticing some cooling fan kits that direct mount to the motor, do they work well enough? or should I just stick with a inrunner or maybe a hybrid in/out runner? planning on 100 amp esc min.
Outrunners

The renegade rigger uses an outrunner. They have more torque than the equivalent Inrunner motors do, but they have to be mounted differently due to the can has to spin."A quick temper will make a fool of you soon enough."

True, it is a zippy little guy.. although I placed a Mega 16/20/2 in there... killer speeds but no reliability... I should have left the outrunner in there.
The outrunners can be installed as a regular can but no cooling can be attached to it... I have tried that as well in my Viper II... not enough RPMs:::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::Comment

I've been fooling with little outrunners in micros recently, and all I can say is that they work. They have enough torque to spin a reasonable sized (for the micros) prop at a reasonable rpm without generating enough heat to require cooling. There is enough power in these micros to blow them off the water with the little outties if you are not careful with the throttle. I have seen some outrunners that incorporate a fan or other means to move air across the windings.
Little outrunners (Speed 400 sized) can be found in a variety of Kvs ranging from around 1200 rpm/V up to 5000 rpm/V. For bigger and more powerful hulls, I think inrunners may be the way to go. The bigger outrunners generally do not have the Kv needed for FE applications.A nation of sheep breeds a government of wolvesComment

plate cooling outrunner
does that plate help alot on the renegade ? I have one and wish I could have longer run times.SV 27,brushless mini vee, renegade rigger, twinstorm, micro drifter, super hawaii , 1/12 miss budwieserComment

As long as your battery holds out, it can run longer."A quick temper will make a fool of you soon enough."

Ya I balloned and overheated a couple so far. Have you tried a 1500 3s 20c to see if that helps? They are just a tad bigger.SV 27,brushless mini vee, renegade rigger, twinstorm, micro drifter, super hawaii , 1/12 miss budwieserComment
