    BEC on a T180?

Has anyone had a bad experience using the built-in BEC in the T180?
Should I use a external BEC?

Not had any bad experiences but I always run an rx pack if running over 4s which I know is recommended & used by a number of people.

I second that martin, i'm running a 1500kv on 6s in my imp v1 and also use a rx pack with 4 aa batterys, no problems so far, and running a x645 prop that I detounged and back cut and the boat hauls with good temps.

I sometimes have a distance issue with BEC and find it necessary to run a receiver pack with most all of my boats. Most racers use a receiver pack.

I use the built in BEC on all my boats with the T180. Three of them, on 4S and 6S (as well on 3S on the T120). Works like a charm every time.

I think both ways can be safe if your set up is ok.Personally I prefer to disconnect the red wire of plug esc to receiver and use a seperate 6,0v battery.Gill

5S can work but I have smoked a t180 on 5s maybe because I was running a Go Pro which added weight and doing drag starts, then half throttle and getting the boat on plane first.

well, "Technically" its a switching BEC on the T180, which means you should be OK to use 6S as its only taking as much power as it needs,
however, it seems that you can use 4S with the ESC and not have issues, anyone who uses over that seems to have the BEC burn out eventually.
Personally, i woud remove the middle wire from the ESC, and use a 6V pack instead.
Sometimes you can wiggle your boat to shore :P
