    Whiplash Strut

I am going to be building a whiplash sport 20 hydroplane for p-limited sport hydro. Which of these struts should I use and what is the difference?

    Hi James,

One of the strut is an extended strut placing the prop further away from the transom. I don't know if anyone has hard data to suggest one is better than the other.

    Later,
    Mike

I like the first one with extended mono bracket. My prop (m445 with slight cup at tips) extends past the rudder. This makes the hull longer and more stable.

Also raise and widen your SPONSON ride pads about 3/16"

Thanks for the input. I was looking at those pics and noticed your rudder. Why did you cut it on an angle like that?

I have since replaced that trimmed mini rudder with a stock length (sharpened) mini rudder. Also rounded on bottom leading edge.

What difference in performance do you notice or what theory do you have in having the prop farther away from the boat?

That is my theory. I have zero blowovers

Rounding the bottom leading edge (radius of dime) of rudder prevents bogging exiting the turns...per Grimracer. I guess it lifts stern?

I plan on running two 5000mah 2s batteries in series. Like you said I would not run less than that.

Build it as lightweight as possible.

My wife took the camera to her mothers (Mothers day). I will post pictures tomorrow night.

                            Here is example of rudder.

Thanks. One other thing I was wondering is what kind of paint to use. Have any suggestions?
