    Marine 120-180A ESC

    Hello,
I built an H&M Maritmo twin cata with 2 Neu 1512 2050kV, 2 CC hydra 120A ESC powered with 6S on each motor and on a octura X447 I got 135km/h. But the boat was not perfectly balanced.

So now I got an issue that one of the 2 esc broke down: the 2 capacitors melted down while connecting the batterie to the esc. I replaced the capacitors, but always the some thing while connecting the batterie.
I reallt searching for a replacement CC Hydra 120, but I was informed that CC stopped the production of these ESC, and they are almost impossible to find. (several weeks ago there was one on ebay but the seller didn't send to europe...) So, i cannot find any replacement hydra 120A.

Now I'm thinking about replacing also the second esc, but I don't have any idea what to take. I'm not a fan of these HobbyKing esc, I want a quality product. The HV and Ice series from CC are definitely to expensive for me and my purpose.

So I want to ask you which esc's (120-180A) would you recommand me for about 170$ each?

    Thanks, Claude

Ya the seaking ones have proven to be darn good for the money. Other than that youd be looking at the SF but not sure if they are in that price range. Havent looked in a while.

        Claude,
The original CC Hydra Ice's & Swordfish's have been discontinued. They were replaced with version 2 models that incorporate data logging. More info is here... http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...trols&sortby=3 - you'll have to scroll down aways to find them.

Like the others who have responded, I too have had great luck with the HobbyWing ESC's. Both land based & marine unit's.

        Hope that helps you out.

i know it's not your question but 2020kv and 6s
          that's 44800rpm

isn't that a bit to much?

Wow, I didn't expect to have so good feedbacks on the HobbyWing ESC :)

Now I got an offer for an used Hydra 120 (100$), apparently it has only 3 runs on it. So my next question is, what would you do? Would you replace the 2 CC ESC's with the HobbyWing or would you buy the used one?

No, iy's not to much. My boat weights about 5,4kg and it works just fine! Nor the motors, nor the esc is getting hot.

                Claude,
Let me answer your question with a question... let's say you buy the used one and it craps out in a month or two, now what?? You'll be right back where your at now.

In my humble opinion I think you would be much better off buying a pair of new Seaking 120's. Two brand new ESC's with factory warranty for about the same cost as the used Hydra, seems like a no-brainer to me. Many people program them with their transmitters, I've found the program boxes to be much easier.

                Good luck with your search...

What would I do... Hmmmm.... Probably not run those motors on 6s with 447 props.

I don't see any problems with that setup. I did almost 10 runs with that setup without any problems, the motors and the ESCs are not hot at all after 20min run.

Do you have an eagle tree or other data logger. That set up has to be getting very close to the limits of those esc,s. Rule of thumb running 6s on an esc rated for 6s you should not be going higher than about75-80% rated amps. You also should not use the bec's on the esc as that will also strain them. The fact that you already blew one esc hints that you may need to dial it back a tad.

Ok, I didn't know that :) So I'm thinking of getting 2 turnigy 180A ESC to be on the safe side.

On the old ESC I never used the BEC, they are only build to last 3S, if I remember well :)

I dunno if t-180 is considered "safe" for what you're doing but good luck

Ya the 180s would be a good choice. They are pretty rugged. I run 6s and learned a cple things the had way lol. I pretty much always run and external bec as well as a resiviour cap on my reciever. always try to add extra caps to the esc as well. Once you get the t180's you should have a pretty nice setup.
