The newer FDM motors are NOT leopards these are 6 pole motors ( they are another brand but I'm not sure which) and are much more efficent than the leopards that are 4 pole, I have run both in the same boat and with the same KV and watt motors I can get almost 30% more runtime with the 6pole motors than the leopards, and Lehners while nice and powerful really don't match up to the NEU's for performance and runtime, Neus are 4 pole and the Lehners are 2 pole motors and draw a LOT of current especially in the bigger boats. Steve is a great guy and a pleasure to deal with no doubt, the BEST I've seen in this segment or actually any segment of the RC world, but I am an RC whore and I will buy from anyone that has what I'm looking for!!!

When it comes to motors is it worth the extra 400 bucks to go with the 2230 neu or go with the 300 dollar fine design series 10000?

If you are going to compete and have the money to spare go with the NEU, if not go with the Proteus. Technically having a Proteus is like having two motors in one because you can set it up at either 910Kv or 1580Kv configurations. Below are the motor specs for both configurations "D" and "Y". You will be able to run and test your boat at low rpm's or high rpm's whichever you decide and you will only spend around $160 or so. Running it at lower rpm's will allow you to choose larger props. You won't be dissapointed.

        Specifications
        X524 2Y System
        Watts: 6300W
        Max Voltage: 33V
        Max Amps: 190A
        Resistance: 0.0069
        KV (RPM/volt): 910
        Max RPM: 30000
        Length: 112mm
        Diameter (w/fins): 55.8mm
        Weight: 1035g
        Shaft Diameter: 8mm
        Length of extend shaft: 30mm

        X524 2D System
        Watts: 6300W
        Max Voltage: 19V
        Max Amps: 331A
        Resistance: 0.0029
        KV (RPM/volt): 1580
        Max RPM: 30000
        Length: 112mm
        Diameter (w/fins): 55.8mm
        Weight: 1035g
        Shaft Diameter: 8mm
        Length of extend shaft: 30mm

Keith Bradley who is a well respected boat builder here, built a large 73" cat using two of these motors. I'll try to find a link to the video and post it for you.

Proteus x524 porwered by 8S2P lipos, running on delta configuration at 910Kv, somewhere between 24,509 and 44,773 rpm's, spinning a 59mm prop. I am using a CC Hydra ICE 240A ESC. I just uploaded a new video of my boat if you want to look at it here is the link

Thanks gyrotron! Are u running a single Lipo pack or two? What pitch is the prop? The new video is awesome ! Thanks again!

I think your comparison of these motors only applies to a certain RPM range.
At high RPM, the Lehners are the most efficient, where the TP 6 pole motor is the least. Neu is in the middle ground.

Actually I am running 4x4S lipos; two pairs in series and then those sets in parallel for an 8S2P setup totalling 9,000mAh.

Nice build. Are you using 1/4 drive & prop shafts or the smaller 3/16?

Im also doing a conversion - 39 inch gas rigger to FE but dont know if I should use the existing 1/4 drives or go the smaller .187 cables. My prop options will also depend on which drive I go for. Thanks
                        Cheers,

You might want to give this a read before you decide where to spend your money.
Couple years ago I was after an H&M hull, couldn't get a straight answer as to if he (Fine Design) even had one in stock. Never ended up with the boat. Didn't like the fact I couldn't get a straight yes or no answer, then was in contact with H&M in Germany, decided the shipping was too much for me.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?
