what boat to buy? new to boats

i would appreciate any input thanks in advance anyways i am new boats but not rc i race trucks and bash monster trucks, along time ago i had a traxxas nitro vee and didn't care for it and sold it and always wanted a traxxas villain ex because i really like its look so i bought one off craigslist and lets just say im not impressed with speed but its fun to bash around, but i think i want to put my foot in the door on racing there is a guy at guy that is part of a club and he races gas hydro buy in not ready for that so i been looking at the MG,mystic, motley crew, impulse 31,spartan,ul1 and the one im most interested in the blackjack29. i have a bunch of 2s 50-100c lipos and looking for something reliable as in no heating issues fun to drive in a lake with decent waves, somewhat fast i don't have to do 50 as much as i want to,but still go a race on a lower lever and have hull that i wont have to upgrade right away i read MG do.nt have reverse?? that could be a deal breaker please chime in don't know if a v hull, hydro or catamaran is the right chose but seems like the catamaran would be

    Hi,
The villain would be a great mod to brushless and would handle chop will to,
I have a few modded boats.
Check out my video in my link below.
Also, Just about all the rtr stock boat need modding from the start,
All need better connector than the stock one'.
Most that know use 5.5 bullets on all the setup wires,
They let the power flow a lot better with less heat.

looking at what brushless system i want to run and get props i would be about $100 shy of the blackjack. i would like to put two traxxas velineon vxl-3s esc and traxxas 3500kv bl motors and brass props but on ebay its about $250 for both motors and esc plus like $50 for props i figure to villain would be a good retrieval boat or something for my girlfriend to play with

I have a villain to that I will be modding some day soon I hope.
It can be a cheap single mod to run on 4s or 6s,
Just depends on what kv motor you want too run.
Hears a build thread on one and video's,

If you go with the BJ29 you will be modding it shortly,
Better to find a good hull and make it right for what you want.
Cat hull can handle a little chop and Hydro to,
But Mono V hull can handle lot's of chop and are a lot of fun running in it.

The other thing is I can't seem to find conversions for single motor to use the dual props I don't want to make a hole for a single prop. Whatever boat I decide to get or if I upgrade my villain I have 5600mah 2s 50-100c lipo packs I would like to have a stable boat in the upper 30's to low or mid 40's

Pretty sure stock villain drives will blow apart if u upgrade to brushless.

Seems like a lot of money to spend now, but you will be miles a head in the long run. Put on the correct size prop, thrown in some properly sized lipos (sounds like you already have some) and go play!

When I build mine villain it will be a single drive setup,
And I think setup for 4s running at high forty's.
Hear the same guy with a twin mod villain.

I noticed you listed two Aquacraft boats is there a reason for that? Was just curious they look like they make a good boat and how would they compare to a mg2,bj29 and a impulse 31 I seem to like the paint scheme of pb if I got the Motley Crew I'd probably have to paint it its kinda lame looking but looks like good specs and boat though

I own a motley, IMO it handles better than the proboat cats, proboat hardware is a little higher quality, although the revolt has MUCH better hardware then the MC, the only original hardware left on mine is the strut, everything and I mean everything else has been replaced, motor mount, stuffing tube, flex cable, rudder.
You are more politically correct with your description of the paint than I am, I personally think it's the stupidest looking thing on the water! Looks like a 14 year old guys wet dream from 1986!
Runs well, some new hardware increases the reliability and new paint makes all the difference,

This is the exact same hull but with much better graphics and what looks to be better hardware on the transom. At least a different stronger looking rudder. Slightly different strut mount.
Just double checked and it looks like the didn't upgrade the Motley hardware.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I suggested these, because that is what I have my experience with and it's what I race. There is nothing wrong with the PB hulls they both have their strengths and weaknesses. I think the biggest difference for me is the motors and controllers. I personally feel the Aquacraft set up (motor and controller) are better units. Performance wise the Motley Crew and Miss Geico are close. There are a couple guys in the club that have both hulls running well.

As for the Revolt; I am of the opinion that it's an all-round better hull than the PB Impulse.

While I agree the hardware on the Revolt is better quality; there ISN’T anything wrong with the MC hardware assuming you stick with the stock motor/controller and play within the boats designed limits. If you start trying to overpower the hull you will be quickly upgrading in many areas and pushing the boat beyond its structural integrity.

It’s a Ford vs. Chevy deal. Pick the one you like and have fun!

                          Later,

Mine is stock electronics, motor mount bent in the first few runs, boat blew over backward and rolled. Bent the rudder in another blow over, first releases had bad flex cables, so that was replaced before it failed.
Both hatch braces broke off, easy fix to glue them in better. Put a layer of epoxy and glass cloth over them, haven't moved since. Stiffened up the hatch nicely as well.
For a stock esc I don't think you can beat the AQ 60 amp version, I run them in a number of spec setups, my SAW cat runs for short bursts at 80-90 amps.
Depending on the boat I run either an 1800kv or the 2030kv UL-1 motor.
My SV27 now has a proboat setup in it, moved the AQ setup to a different better handling hull.
I haven't actually had a proboat motor fail, but I did catch a loose end cap before it caused a smoke show.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

The recent batch of RTRs from PB and AQ are all pretty nice-- selection these days are more determined by which hull you like.
