You are right in your thinking Ray.
Generally, most motors with the wires coming out the sides of the can have shorter windings & a shorter armature compared to a motor of the same can length with the wires coming out the back.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

Well, when I tear down my P-mono for winter Maint. I'll know what condition my 4092 TP Power (via FC racing) is in. Hopefully the rotor, bearings and stator are all in top notch shape.

I am thinking a 1515 Castle possibly if the TP bites it.

Thos makes perfect sense too.... Hmmm maybe Tenshock is worth a go and they are "Y" winds also... Decisions, decisions...

the Tenshock does not have the wires like the Castle motor, that could be an easy 60grams lighter

Thanks Carl, Maybe I'll give an old 442 some spit and try it.

The D-12 boys are right on with a 1515/1Y and 1521/1.5D. I ran the 1515 in a couple races and did well with it on my DF33. Since we have cut a half second or better per lap going to a TP 4092/2200kv. I do feel the 1521 1.5d might be better yet and I have one in the box.

                  Tenshocks are powerful motors.
Just add a couple of ceramic bearings and you are fine.
Factory bearings are from malaysia at least was on mine.

Likely a more efficient motor, but since we run different brand packs I can't be sure... my config is hyperion packs + neu motor vs turnigy packs +leopard motor.

And are the two hulls you are comparing the same?
Are both hulls running the same props?

On 2 lap timming runs we ran an M545 and for general heat racing an M445 cut down to 43-44mm. It does run a lot wamer than the 1515. I have since changed to ceramic bearings but haven't run enough to say it is definately better on a watch. But it does seem smoother. Another prop I like is an 45X68 Grimracer which seems to load a little less than an M445.

The 1521/1.5d is my motor of choice, I can prop it w a prather 235 to 245 or X450-455 depending on conditions, I run a DF cyberstorm w 4S2P Dinogy batts. Current P-mono National champion.

Yes. Neu motors are definitely more efficient than the Chinese knock offs.
