Someone sent me to this site when I asked the same question...
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Here is how I have done de-tonguing in the past:

Chuck an old propshaft with drive dog into a drill press or lathe in such a way that a file or belt sander can reach the prop tongues when the machine is turning. Install the prop onto the shaft and turn on the machine. When spinning, an "X" series prop makes a sort of "M" shape. Using a coarse file or small belt sander (a dyna-file is perfect here), carefully grind away at the tongues while the prop is spinning until the spinning prop shape looks like a parabola.

Remove the prop, and you will see that the freshly cut leading edge is quite thick. File, then sand the drive-dog side of the prop until it is thin, smooth, and without "lumps".
