To be fair, that looks like laser cut wood which means RTR to me, as its newbies that buy RTRs you can't really blame him for letting it get in that state as he wouldn't have known any better (maybe for selling it like it, as it is pretty grim). If you built a wooden boat or put wood rails in a boat you wouldn't dream of not giving the wood on the inside a coat of epoxy as anyone htat has been in the hobby for some time knows its going to rot otherwise, I say name and shame the MFG for letting one with unsealed wood get out of the factory, hopefully its a rare QA issue and they will give you a replacement.

I bought it used I should have checked it out better. Not naming or shaming someone for something I could have averted. Just really wanted a Cat as opposed to a mono so I bought it.
going to rip all the wood out put new glass in the bottom, Two part foam in the nose and work up something for some sort of battery tray to fit into the sponsons. Also reinforce the hatch cover with glass.

Yep, I was looking at that one to Jim,
Looks like it was run in marshy waters and put away wet a lot.

I still have to see what I have to do to the one I have coming.

I always try to look at it as the glass is half full instead of half empty.

So sorry to hear that Jim, I hope after the bleach you can start at least on clean FG to rebuild. Doug is right though, it is not good to inhale that stuff. I would get a hazardous rated mask when cleaning it.
Good luck with the rebuild, I do think that you will be happier after the thorough rebuild, I know how meticulous you are, I am the happy owner of two of your fabulous hydros.

                        Jim,

That sucks... I had the same thing happen to an AquaCraft ProFisherman bass boat in the past. Stripped it out and soaked the whole hull in a bucket of bleach water overnight, then dried it out really well and coated all the wood with epoxy. Fixed the problem.

I don't think it has as much to do with the water you run in as it does with where the Chinese sorced wood originated from and how it's prepped for install.

NONE of my RTR boats get put into the water prior to getting this treatment now, even though the factory seems to be trying to coat the wood with something these days.

I think PB is looking at reducing the use of wood inside of these boats in the future designs. They don't like it and think it makes the boats look cheap, and I don't like it because it just adds weight that is more than likely unnecessary in the first place. Motor mounts and servos can be mounted to the hull, as we've done it for years.

Let me know when you get her cleaned up and ready and we'll get it setup.

I'm thinking of taking all of the wood out of one of my PB Cats and setting it up that way just to see if the hull itself is rigid enough to still hold together without the extra structure.

Sorry you are experiencing this... sucks...

Think I will try Darins repair suggestion first before I rip it out though the battery trays are coming out for sure as one is falling apart.

If you are planning to run it in a spec class, try to weigh it before and after changes. I gutted a MG and used CF & epoxy inside with water cooled motor mount but, still it's a bit heavy. Stable as heck but, wish I kept it lighter.

Ray what weight CF did you use. Got any after gutting any pics? What did you do with the battery trays?
