Thanks Jay and Tyler. I will go with the 12s 200amp as originally planned. I kinda knew that from my time with Jay, but was over thinking it again and thinking headroom on amps might be better than headroom on volts. Tyler, I am building a wood GP400 from MLboatworks right now, so more than able to start cutting and repositioning drive shafts and radio boxes as needed. Still beats the labor of building it from scratch. The good news is the rear strut is mounted on the back like an electric not within the hull that I see on a lot of Gas Boats. Maybe I will get lucky and I get the COG to work out without too much work. Thanks for the information on speeds also. By the way, what COG am looking for? Maybe 1.0 - 1.5 inches behind the sponson?

Okay so I am settled in on 8s. What prop should I use? I would like my best odds at getting the "right" prop the first go round rather then the usual 10 I buy before I find the right one. I will not punish anyone if they are off, chuckle, but seriously give me the best recommendation you can think of for a prop. The target top end speed is about 76mph.

If you plan on racing this it will have to be 10S or lower. 12S is not allowed in either organization. If you are building from a kit you should have no problems. In your previous post you said you were getting a backlash already built.

Yes COG should be about 1 behind the sponsons.

Sorry, for the confusion, I only mentioned the GP400 I am building so that you know I can handle whatever changes that need to be made to the Backlash. We are only talking about the Backlash here.

And do you have an email address or number for me so I can place an order for the prop. You are thinking 8s still when you gave me this prop recommendation correct? Just being sure we are on the same page before I purchase the prop.

Jim, this is from a run I just did. Now it's not a backlash but should let you know what the 2028 is capable of. I'm using it with the Castle 200HV as well and this was with an ABC 6518 410.

That run was with 10s, I'm still waiting on more lipos for 8s.

Interesting. You are showing some peak amperages in the 180 range and that is on 10s. I would think that means on 8s you might see more amps to get the same speeds? Why do we think 8s is better? Could it be more effeciency on the prop at lower rpm's?? The wattage is nice. Looking like up around 6.7hp.

Not sure, but I'll try and see what the difference is.

The pieces coming together. I drove to Lufkin, TX today from Houston (2 hours) to meet Ted H. and his friend Tom half way. Ted sold me this boat and I am very happy to have it! We had a cup of coffee and got to talk boats for awhile. The great thing about this hobby is you meet a lot of very nice people along the way. So here it is. The build will not start for a couple of weeks I think because of commitments. First thing to work out is motor and battery placement and what changes will need to be made to make it all work as it was built to run gas, although it was never run.

That is an Insane FE30 hydro on top for perspective of how big this boat is.
