Yes he does. A bec to me, as you have found, is just something else to fail. If I'm not comfortable with the bec on a control I use a RX pack.

Honestly I'm more curious about the difference in amp draw than I am why the control and Castle bec don't play nice together.

The next time i get a chance to go to the pond i will do a couple runs one with and one without the bec both with my eagle tree and i will post the amp graph so you can see
