I really like the turbine hatch and do not have a problem modifying it. Interesting thoughts on power so may have to move up to castle and 240lv. Not sure about batteries would prefer to run non modified Dynogy 6s 5000 cells.

OK for the cowl cut some of the turbine off the back and an inch into the flat area, seal it w a piece of lexan and silicone or shoe goo and do the same across the back to have a flat place to tape. I also run a 1527/1Y with an old Hydra 240LV on 6S2P 10,000mah, (same motor and ESC for 5 years) I use long flat packs 3 and 3 cells end to end (custom built) and slip them inside the sponsons, I also have remy custom build my SC hulls with shelves glassed into the sponsons, with no stringers, not only does it make it easier to get batts in and out I believe it stiffens the hull and sponsons making the boat more consistent. My boat has won 5 national championships in Q Offshore, and won Open Cat with it at The NortherLights Open, and The Michigan Cup Race also this year. Anyone whose seen it run says its the best Q boat they've ever seen, so I believe in the SC as an offshore boat. I've been running the boat for over 5 years, changing only the batteries and prop, with each consecutive change in battery technology I've been able to go faster and faster and still make time. Heres a little info.
1st batts) Enerland 30C 10,000mah-56 mph 4 minutes almost no battery left PROP== really modded X648/2
2nd batts) Hyperion 45C 10,000mah 60mph 4 minutes about 10% batt left same prop
3rd batts) TP 65C 10.000mah 62 mph 4 minutes 30% battery left!!!!! same prop.... new prop X452/2 (modded) 67mph 5% left
4th batts) (and currently what I'm using) Dinogy 65c 10,000 67mph 4 minutes 18% batt left X452/2 modded
The Dinogy's are great batts.
I have raced this same cat in S-T offshore and in Open Cat against BIGGER gas nitro and FE cats, and it is a very capable hull.
Is the battery configuration 4 x3s or custom built long 6s.
Would 6s fit in sponsons?
How much of a step down would the Leopard 4092 or larger leopard motor be?
Still can't get my head around these motor variables. If I am going to spend twice as much for the Neu, is there justification for it?
Thanks again for all of the input.KartRacer ~ Dennis B

No they are custom long 6s, Non modified 6S will NOT fit in the sponsons, but you can put them on the tunnel, I've seen good ones run like that and Jay (fluid) seems to like the batts on the tunnel, (he's been doin this a LOOOONG time)!!! I like the Neu motors, like I said I have this boat over 5 years with the same motor and speedo with hundreds of 4 minute runs and have never had an issue. I don't think I've ever even oiled the bearings!!!! OOPS.... Lets put it this way I can get leopard motors for FREE, yes FREE but I choose to spend my money on NEU's.We call ourselves the "Q"Comment

I had almost every Aeromarine they made. I still have some very old Mono's by them along with a 36 sprint and sport 40 hydro. To me nothing runs like a sprintcat. My hpr hulls that end up costing me 10x more can't keep up with the AM cats in oval. The sprintcat is a blast to run and can be built for a very reasonable price. If built correct it will get you years of fun. The first one I built I also took jays and mikes info. You won't get much better in my opinion.my youtube videos http://www.youtube.com/user/chris81983?feature=mheeComment

I have a Neu 1521/2.5D 1200kv in mine on 8s1p, for sure it will be slower than Jay and Mikes as I have to get 5 minutes from my 1p, so have just a little over half the power, but it is still pretty fast, accelerates hard, and shows no signs of excess cavitation using a comparatively tiny de-tongued x440 used to run a 438 on it too with older technology lower capacity cells and it still pushed it fine , mine is not built lightly either being an ex IC boat with the front full of foam, quite a lot of reinforcing and partial stringers, though the lighter cells, motor and hardware probably save around 3lb. 4s just about squeezes past the cut down stringers into the sponsons which are very roomy once in place.
I cut the turbine tube back half an inch past the rear of the hatch opening. Cut and bent a piece of a blister pack to shape as epoxy does not stick to it, taped it in place with hatch tape, mixed some epoxy and microballoons into a filler and filleted the sharp corners, glassed over the lot overlapping the old glass, waited for it to dry, ripped the blister material and tape off, cleaned the tape residue off, sanded flush and painted. I missed a trick, the sides curled up slightly when it was only supported with tape for a few hours before the glass dried, it is not a big problem and it is not enough to lift tape, but you can see in the pic that the edges sit high when on the shelf, if I was doing it again I would have tacked a stiff piece of wood across the bottom of the hatch a couple of inches forward of the cut line to keep it flat, glassed it, and when dry removed the wood.
