i know the airbrush artist in town, what you got in mind shawn? I already went to the vinyl sign guy and had his make me a stincil cutout. On the cutout, you'll just have to wait till I get it painted. To see what it is.

Sorry to high jack but this i feel it's closely related. I just repainted and am the final stages. Nine layers of clear and now I'm wet sanding the orange peel down and get the print a little smoother. I have been using 2000 but it is takin some elbow grease. I have some 1200 too but I just about used it up. Can I use something more aggressive like 600 or is that gonna be too hard to buff out? Been working on it for a while now so don't want to get impatient on the last lap so to say.

So what is the most aggressive grit u guys would use.

600 is gonna be tough to buff. 1200-1500 is the best. Even 1000 would be good, 800 ok but tough, 600 just real tough

I wouldn't go below 1000 grit. But if the orange pell is bad, hit it a little bit with the 800, then 1000, 1200 or 1500 then buff. I would hate for you to get to aggressive and sand thru your clear

I have sanded off with 600 and cleared over it again.I was trying to smooth out decals. When I went over with clear the scuffs melded in and you could not see them.I use U-pol Clear#1.But if you don't want to go over it again just work you're way up in grits till polish.

I was thinking touching it up with wetsanding(masking the area) and touching up with an airbrush. This way you can blend the small areas.
                I love my airbrush.

Well I ordered my paint today. I'm just waiting on the black to fully cure. Then I'm going to sand down the gray and orange back down to primer. And start over. How everybody kept calling the orange, red. And how the gray and black is metalic. I'm putting on a orange metalic this time.

Clearcoat your boat with no more than two coats of clear, this is standard procedure on cars, this will give you enough coverage to wet sand the orange peel and get rid of the the two-tone line. 1000 grit wet sandpaper works well.

Do not put 9 layers of clear on, that is way extreme and will cause a yellowing of the clear, remember Clearcoat is the heaviest product your spraying on your boat, anymore than two coats is overkill and will weigh a ton.

Plasti Cote is basically liquid mask and does work well. works better than tape when custom painting.

I think it depends on what type of clear he is using. Spraycan clear he will need far more than 2 coats. If he's using a spraygun two coats should do.

I was using rustoleom spray. I didn't do 9 coats with 100% coverage. I did a real light coat followed with medium and then a real good one. Waited a couple days and did it again, then one more time.

Thats why I use a clear pearl instead of metallics.

If I plan to do paint work like yours. I make sure the base coat is pretty heavy. I let it cure, then go back with 600-800 wet sand to remove the paint ridge build up from taping details.
