    Connector question...

I read through a ton of posts here on connectors, but would really like to know what route I should go with my Atomik ARC... The ESC has an EC5 connector on it, should I go with those all around, deans, or get some bullets??? Size on motor, battery, charger, and best brand, will be very helpful... thanks guys!!!

Appreciate it... Forgive me as I am pretty new to these types of connectors... I always ran deans and the long square plastic type in my cars back in the day, Don't you have to put shrink wrap on each connector, once you solder it??? I apologise for my ignorance, never used these styles of connectors before...

I just use a lighter to shrink wrap. Other than a soldering iron at least 40w I think you're good.

There are so many little innovations/tricks in this hobby, things that are way more accessable and just as effective............its really quite amazing.

Nice... trying to confuse me... J/K... I am thinking for my application, they might be better, but if bullets are just that much better, I may just invest in them...

EC5's are good connectors from what i hear, i have never used them, i cut them off of lipos the second i get them and throw 5.5's on. One thing for certain, you cant mis-plug them in or short them.

I use a mini torch for both soldering and shrank wrapping 5.5 bullets.

I will second the 5.5mm bullets. Good standard size and I use them all the way up to Q racing class with a big neu1527 motor and never had a failure. The most important thing is to pick a connector that is big enough to handle the amps for ALL of your rc toys, so you can standardize...

Can also use the side of the soldering iron for shrink wrapping.

I used to use ec5's, worst connectors available IMO, endless heat problems, melted bodies, de-soldered joints.
Changed to HK part # AM-1005 and haven't had an issue since then.
And yes they were soldered very well, soldering was a good part of what I used to do for a living.
Plus you have to use harnesses with extra connectors to run even in series with ec5's or any other bodied connector for that matter.
Go with bullets and you won't have any problems. 95% of the people in this hobby use bullets for good reason, simply the best connector for what we do.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

5.5's really are the workhorse connector, I use them on all my batts to standardize everything, when I use them on big apps like my 10s Mono, i still use them on my batts in that boat too, but parallel two 5.5's into one 8mm to bulk up for the ESC and motor leads.
