    Esc caps on fire

    Hello all,

    I am currently running a proboat mystic with a leopard 3650 2450kv 3y motor timed at 15 and a seaking 120 esc. The problem I am having is very high temps on the esc caps (260 range) then it hitting thermal cutoff after about 45 seconds of run time...motor temps are about 115 top of esc 105 and packs are at 100. Esc to motor wires are about 170 though... Idk... This is with the stock mystic prop and with a grim 42x55. This very frustating I have no idea how many amps the motor is pulling...I have 6mm bullets on the motor wires and 5.5mm bullets every where else... Please stop my pain, literally the caps burnt my finger pretty bad. Thanks.

    sell motor esc combo, replace with 4074 2000-2200 kv and turnigy 180. That is the simple answer. We could run eagle tree on your current set up, I bet you are pulling a lot of amps. Lots of kv for a fairly small motor.

        Hi,
        Is your prop S & B good ?
        If yes,
        How long are your wires on the esc to motor and esc to cells ?
        I added 3 more 35v1000uf cap to my SK120 esc to help with heat.
        ? ONLY IF THEY WORK

              Yeah the prop is balanced. And the wires from the esc to the batts are 6" and the esc to motor are 4".

                I'm just wondering why the setup I have is so trouble some. I know just enough about this stuff to get myself into trouble. I am not denying that. Just figured proboat used a 3650 so would I. Then my thoughts on the kv was trying to get around 35000 rpm on 4s. Then I thought hmmm. If the seaking120 works the proboat 1500kv on 6s just fine then it should be able to handle roughly the same rpm with the 4s 2450 kv setup. That's what my train of thought was... So where exactly did I go wrong... So I don't f up my twin build i am starting also?

                  1500x23.2= 33300
                  2450x14.8=36260
                  That's a good gap there.
                  You're running ALOT of rpm and probably over propped. Do you have a smaller prop to try?
                  You're motor is better suited for 3s really

                    The proboat motor is 6 pole and only rated at 4s although some people push 5s through it. 3650 is way too small and 2450 is way too high of kv for that size hull

                      Thank you for the help... I was using the stock mg prop... Could that also be too big?

                        Yes, too much prop. You should consider what Shaun said. You will continue to fight unless you change the setup

                          So do as instructed and dump the whole setup? Could I run a 3674? Does that 4mm in motor diameter make that big of a difference?

                              I want to run 4s I know that. I want to run around 45mph and I want to be able to run my 5000mah packs to cut off without having to worry about temps. What's the bees knees for that?
