I can't believe I have to explain Tony's thread, but here goes.
The video he posted is of an hpr hull ( very expensive )
The pic he posted is of a fightercat hull (more affordable)
I thought it was pretty obvious.
You still haven't given your budget.

          Mi Amigos,

Let's take the high road with this young man and do our best to add a new FE enthusiast to "our thing" In view of that, and to sum up all the obvious questions needed to be answered, I drafted a "New Boat Questionnaire" that, when answered by the prospect could guide us in a direction helpful (and maybe sobering) to the potential newbie.

It's just a quick rough draft (in Word) and comments are welcome.

enuf said 200-300 for a hull there are only 2 options in my mind and thats an Aeromarine sprintcat 40. Mine runs in the 60's with an offshore setup, and can and has run in the 70's when needed!!!!!!!. Ask any of the guys here who have raced w/ me and they can tell you my cat is one of the best in the country. The other route is to buy a .40 whiplash (sport hydro) wood kit (about 300 with the cowl) and build it yourself these boats are capable of speeds in the 70's and 80's and can be raced in Q-sport hydro and sometimes the nitro guys will let you race them in the sport 40. You have many different choices in power setups for both boats that will get you where you want to go. There are numerous build threads on this hull to help you out too. Building your own wood hull is its own reward. As for the sprincat if youu decide to go that way I can certainly outline a setp for you to reach your goal, but either way with motor speedo hardware batteries and radio gear you are not getting to that goal without spending close to $1500 or even more.

Forget hpr then. They aren't great racers anyways, they don't turn well.
Aeromarine sprintcat is in your budget and is a perfect race boat. It will turn at remarkable speeds and can handle speeds upward of 60 without skipping a beat.

you really should be more specific next time. you said you wanted best on the market, then you finally told us your budget of 200-300 bux. had you said that to begin, we would have told you, thats not enough for "best" on the market, and would have saved us plenty of pointless typing about boats you cant afford. thanks

I'd check out the build sheet on this boat before getting into it.

That was Dick Loebs full "P" tunnel record run and not with a spec motor. Going over 70 with an OB tunnel is not going to happen with a spec motor. Boat ran very well at high speed and at lower speeds with a spec motor it is very competative. 50+mph can be done on a budget but into the 70mph range the price goes up with each mph.
