That first video made me think of something. Why do we (NAMBA) charge a lap penalty for a cut with electric boats? Just stupid IMO. Should be a point system like IMPBA. With a fuel boat there's no cost impact with doing an extra lap or two. Two extra laps with an electric could be that boats last run on those cells. I know I know..........don't cut. Like ya do it on purpose. A $100 penalty would be a cheaper than the two laps with some of these boats.
More Hijack (sorry Ray), but...Damn Terry; stop making sense-you have a bad habit of doing that.

To Wit : Twice in the last year I had to do seven. Melted the connectors off one time, and recently thermaled & crept across the finish at barge speed. If you're going for points you got to finish. We race FE at the gasser events ; just TAP a buoy and you need to go one more . Keep the hammer down and hope for the best. Can get pricey

Well, without batteries it weighs in at 8lbs 12oz. Adding 6S2P 5000 Aspec (or similar) 65C= 12lbs 6oz Total

Yep, my P mono is a gun ship too. I should weight that pig.

The lap penalty thing really bugs me. For open classes with the fossils that's fine but for a 175 amp 4s2p mono class or something.......... Might as well stop and take the DNF. Last run on those cells would be a best case scenario. Melt the connectors off and dead short those batteries. Your no longer worried about their life expectancy. Go ahead, pop open that hatch to see wacha got. Bring sand.

Terry indirectly said something positive about the IMPBA.

My last P-Mono race I limped across the line (after a buoy-bump 1 lapper) in thermal shutdown but my points advanced me from eight to fourth place in D19 points. Now I can make the shootout. YaY !!

Odd Terry, I can make 7 laps plus mill with my 4S2P Mono and Sport Hydro and with my 10S1P T-Offshore without overheating - even in 100*+ heat. Plenty of power left in the packs too. The P boats average 185+ amps so they are not puffball setups. As soon as we start making different racing rules for FE, the fuel guys will have one more reason to think that toy FE boats are just not up to the task. The problem is not the lap penalty, it is borderline setups and poor driving(!). This is nothing new, I remember racing in several APBA Nationals in the mid 90s when I'd limp across the finish line at 3 mph with 1/2 volt per cell left in my NiCd packs. We ran setups too close to the limit, using raw power (if NiCd/brushed setups can be said to have raw power) instead of better tuning and driving......

I don't know Jay. IMPBA has the same rules for FE and fuel. The problem is that the NAMBA rule is stupid. In my humble opinion of course. haha The IMPBA boys don't look down on FE racers for wanting a 50 point deduction for cutting a buoy.......cuz that's how they do it too. A difference in rules is irrelevant. We don't belong on a course together and some don't want us at their races anyway. I did say "some" not all.

A full mill, 6 laps, plus the cool down lap. Throw in a 9th lap and my boats are pissed. That's approaching offshore lap counts. I must be pushing too hard. I surely am with the Q sport.

I did some "inquiring" and the likelyhood that NAMBA will ever change on this is nil, zero, zip, natta. Drivers that cut should be racing in rooky classes until they can learn to drive better. So those of you that have ever made a mistake, caught a wake, whatever, and cut a buoy are in the wrong classes. No sympathy for cutters regardless of the cost. The NAMBA rule "should" read that if you cut a buoy you did not finish......since you're not a good enough driver for the class and don't belong there it shouldn't matter.

Change is the devil. SOP. Our club has been running points since 2008 now. We'll continue ignoring the NAMBA rule. Unfortunately, if we host a nationals we'll be forced to run by the book.

Personally I don't like the namba rule either I don't see the point in running an unnecessary lap for FE. But I don't think Impba is hard enough on them. Thinking outside the box maybe you can do some kinda place deduction. Say knock 2 or 3 spots off what you're finishing order is. So say you finished third in heat with a cut you get fifth place points. to me that is a pretty big deterrent and penalty. Just a thought

Did you ever have a cut Jason? I know you have. I guess you're in over your head. haha I'm kidding of course. I've seen ya drive. Lipo? Burn em if ya got em. Money is no object...........kidding again.

The lap penalty is one of those "we do it that way because that's the way we've always done it and we're not changing because when we wrote the rule 40 plus years ago before there was electric racing and before the turn of century it made sense and therefore will always make sense as long as we all shall live.....amen"

We always hear "FE is the future" but making sensible accommodations for the boats that are "the future" just rattles cages. We'll keep the rules as they are and I'll encourage everyone that I know to ignore them and come up with a sensible approach. Accept for the nats.............then, by the book. ugh

Sorry Ray......sooooooooo jacked you're thread. Q boats.....go 2P if you can swing it. Carry the max mah in case you go to a nats and catch a gust of wind and need to do 9 laps. The horse is bleeding. Let it GO Davis.

Talk about antiquated - cool-down lap? Who runs those? After a boat finishes a heat it can be called off the course by the CD - it's in the book (Heat Racing, G.4.). Just have the CD tell each racer to go to the inside of the course after finishing the heat - when safe to do so of course. Heck Terry, if you hate NAMBA rules so much, why not race under IMPBA? That seems so simple a solution, and it would lower your blood pressure so much. Frankly I don't care, I've done my share of penalty laps and it's almost always my fault - doesn't matter if it points or laps it's my responsibility to drive clean.

Bottom line - rules is rules - if you can't change them, then learn to live by them. You of all people should understand that.....

Cool down lap, lol.... heat up lap! I was thinking to use 3rd channel to open 2 hatches letting air in and out for that "cool" lap.

(Hijacking on...) We can, with five entries, run P-Ltd Sport Hydro on Saturday and P-Mono on Sunday during gasser events. We've now gotten the CD's to adopt a 30 second full lap mill clock instead of the 2-minute launch-then-thirty-second countdown. Starting to lose the cooldown lap. Progress, but still up to the CD. Still one lap for a buoy touch or cut and $5 for a destructo hit. I'm still buouy-challanged but grateful to get a chance to race. Raced rookie Open two years ago ; seven year-old girl and two nine year old boys & me. Ask me what that felt like (DNF'd twice & won one heat). Today those kids would whip my a$$. I'd like the idea of an FE rookie class; race there until a certain amount of points are achieved - racing against the really good drivers usually guarantees few class wins and some frustration but does encourage a faster learning-to-drive curve.. Thing is that there's not enough entries in FE to make up rookie and expert. Just happy to get to race , whatever.
