Do you really want to do that? I mean, you bought a high amp. Esc for a reason, and with high amps. comes heat. Is shaving maybe only 4oz. really worth the risk? A couple reasons I bought a FC ESC, more accurate timing settings,(unlike SF), and a reverse.
And yes Virginia, these puppies are huge! With an added cap bank mine is nearly 8,1/2" long. I hope Fighter Cat Racing will get their act together soon, but I'm not holding my breath.

I bought it for a margin of safety. I run 6s and its going in a rigger with a cc 1717. I wanted higher volt rating for more headroom. Amp wise i doubt it will come anywhere close to the 280a its able to handle. Its rated for 16s though so thats more than double what i will ever put through it. I just dont see it needing both these huge jackets.

Running 6 cells on that controller will probably pull just as many amps or more than if you were to run double that cell count. Keep all the water cooling.

Water cooling on these seems to be a week point. Perhaps thats why they need two plates instead of one. I would prefer one good water plate over two bad ones. I can make a good plate for it if im not happy with the amount of water that these flow. If they are just dead weight they will be going!

The fact that it will pull twice the amps as a higher voltage setup doesnt really mean much. How much is twice? All my boats are 6s and other than some very brief spikes they usually dont go much over 160a. This motor will be capable of much higher power but I doubt its going to be using anywhere near 280. and thats at roughly a third of the voltage its rated to handle.

These jackets look to be good quality. Not sure if they are the same as the ones ben was using. They are not just drilled into a solid block like other chinese esc's. See no reason why they wont perform well. The larger jacket on the bottom likely doesnt do a whole lot but i guess would offer some cooling. I will do some testing to monitor temps before I make my final decission on whether or not they will both be required.

that plate on the bottom DOES do something. IT helps keep the PC board and the underside of the fet's cooled
at the same time as the upper one keeps the FET's cool.
I modded my 8S 300A unit doing so and believe me it works a treat.

Hey Carl, my FC 16s 200amp only has one water block. Thinking of adding another, what water block did you use? Where did you buy it? I have a lot of thermal paste, but don't you need some kind of thermal glue?

The bottom plate on these is not really mounted. There is a thin plastic film and some really gooy grey gunk smeard on it. It sticks quite well and the shrink wrap holds it in place. I think the gooy stuff must be thermal paste. Whatever it is its very messy...lol

that is the thermal paste. it is gooey for sure. LOL

Runz; I got mine from Ben a while back when he was still in the biz.

and you use the thermal paste, then hold the block on with shrink wrap is all.
