time to take a dump on my local LHS

ok does anyone run into this sort of thing with your local LHS?

called one of my hobby stores that i barely use because they know absolutely nothing about boats..i was reassured they know nothing about boats this morning..i asked them if they had any 3/16ths flex/drive cables and there response was

"well i have some .080 cable here"

"and believe it or not you can go into vip and napa and buy weedwacker line that is similar in diameter now they do this to get by"

my response is "really? wow how do they attach a prop to a weedwacker line because it would be much cheaper to run boats with this line and there would be very little drag inside the stuffing tube...

    u get the idea

there specialty is not boats but come on they still sell the aquacraft/proboat usual rtr lines and this is the response i get to a very simple question
i would like to support my LHS but its awful hard sometimes..maybe if i flew planes i would have no trouble dealing with them..i am in a very limited state for hobby shops in general thank god there is OSE and others

None in my hometown know anything. I have to drive an hour to orlando to an awesome hobby shop. Surprisingly, they stock an unbelievable amount of stuff.

what tends to bother me the most and maybe the real root of this thread is that they tend to downplay my questions because its out of there knowledge base..there is an attitude thatif its not plane or car related its just a waste of time..maybe if they took just a little tiny bit of time and watched some of the fe boats go that would spark more interest..i was explaining to them that my 85 mph boat could not have a weedwacker line in it and they were stunned that boats could even go that fast..i told them that there are many boats out there really pushing the limits and they should check them out sometime... fighting the FE fight haha

My LHS took my special order for Octura stuff and did absolutely NOTHING with it for over a month. They never called me (even though they took my phone number). When I stopped in to ask about my order it took them over 15 minutes of shuffling and calling other people to get me answer.

"We didnt place the order because there wasnt enough there for us to bother with". Back when I placed the order it was no big deal and they order from that distributor on regular basis...

Since then I havent and wont bother to step foot into the place again (unless dire emergency for something "standard").

I would rather pay the shipping charges vs the local tax and the gas I waste driving 1+ hrs round trip to get stupid answers.

At my LHS the only boating stuff they carry is 1/4" drive gas stuff as the one guy is a big shot racer. They do also carry very limited RTR and a very fer replacement parts. So at least they got the hot shot racer on staff. Although the few times I talked with him I got the feeling that my Tacon and Turnigy stuff was cheap junk...

my LHS is verry knowledge about boats, mostley old school nitro stuff but rest asured one or two of the guys know boats.. you have to accept that just because you walk into a yamaha dealer doesnt mean they know about snow mobiles...

Hey rip sorry I'm missed your gig a while back.,, yes I had other plans.
About lhs and boat knowledge? I've yet to come across one in ma. That's why we have ose I believe.
The hobby town USA that was in my town (until recently out of business), was owned by a smug little old asshole.... I told him off just before he closed his doors. This guy was a real jerk to me. Others have had bad experiences with him, and some good. Guess he chooses who he likes. Either way he closed, but in his time, he was very un- knowledgeable about the products he sold. His interests were mainly trains and planes. If you're gonna own a hobby shop that carries everything, you'd better get to know the products....

i dont get it the amount of water in south florida lake ponds and rivers u wold think there would be alot more interest in this hobby, i left a flyer in the hobby shop calling all boaters and got one anwser from a guy that used to do fe boating. everytime i go in there a new boat is on the shelf with several somebody is buying them, why wouldnt the owner point out the flyer to them.

plane and helis rule over all then on/offroad way down the list is gas and nitro boating and even further down is some type of fe boating- this is most hobby shops in my area, that grave rc in orlando is the best lhs i have been to hands down nobody was an idiot there and listened to what i had to say and did not pretend to know it all it was wonderful

Are you refering to Graves hobby shop ?
If so they do have alot of stuff for boats but are clueless about them.
example a newbee was in the store buying some stuff for his MC, looked like a stock prop, and was getting a battery, I noticed it was a 7400mh 20c don't know what make but I made a remark
that he should get at least a 30c. the sales guy said no and that he will get about 20-25 min run time from that battery, I said I think not and the debate started. I could go on about other things the sales men said and was pushing on this newbe
but I told him to call me and I would fill him in on some stuff including this site but he never did.

yeah the guy at my lhs kept arguing with me about putting 5.5mm bullets on everything to replace the deans connectors...He lost and i convinced him that he was a moron, did not know anything about boats, and therefore, should not sell any in his shop. I had another friend who had the owner of his lhs try to convince him that the proboat widowmaker is a better boat than the Ul-1 because it had a higher kv motor....these guys are absolute idiots and they frustrate me and everyone else in the hobby.

I know what you mean, went the same route with my lhs about deans and he still wont it or give in, they just cant understand that boats pull more amps then planes or cars
and there clueless about how much run time you get on boats, not much.

My LHS guy looked me in the face a said a PB WidowMaker was faster then a AQ UL-1. My response was "really how so", he said because the kv was a lot higher... needless to say he left me alone after I started laughing. This was a few years ago, come to think of it I haven't seen that guy since.
