So the ESC came factory set with defaults that would ensure its destruction? No dumbed down middle of the road - 1/2 power only - kinda works with any motor, but not particularly well unless tweaked - default? Just a "get this right, first time out, or kaboom"?

Yikes, that thing sounds more touchy than I can be at times!

Heck, it was just under soft acceleration at the time. This is the second ESC from FC that has fried. The first one at least got on plane for 3 passes.
Just a thought Carl, have you run your motor on a different esc since? I have had bad motors take out speedos before - catch them on fire!!
If you havent, I would check out the motor; there shouldn't have been anything wrong with your set up - unless either the motor or speedy were hosed.

MY POINT EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!! Must be set exactly within a certain parameter for that motor or it will blow up!!!???????? Cheapo chinese ESC's will at least beep or stutter or tell you something is wrong.................

This is a valid possibility though, I've had an otherwise undamaged (ran one time), but admittedly lower quality motor (an AQ 1800) that I had bought new in the box, short out internally and take out the ESC and Rx on the workbench. The motor was practically new, and ran (for the most part) flawlessly until that one wrong trigger pull.

If it's the motor's fault, it really sucks. The other problem is that you almost need to roast another ESC to see if it's the motor that is causing it.

Another question about this ESC. Is the heat sink a closed unit? or perhaps under the shrink wrap there is a tubing loop like with so many other ESC's? Doesn't, *feel* like there is, but don't want to cut the
wrapping if there is not. Is there a way to improve cooling? (another plate?, pcb looks to be single sided). Caps on ESC are, 80v 330uf, / The 5 cap bank I have is, 63v 1000uf, 130*c, there's no problem with that is there?
Probably a dumb question, but hey, I'm wearing a tee-shirt with NOOB written across my chest.
