    New to Electrics

First of all just wanted to say Hi to everyone as this is my first post. Been reading the forum for a few weeks and have learned alot from all of you. Would like to apologise in advance as I am new to the electric rc boats. I have run a nitro AC Model Wave Slave in the past but have recently sold this as I wanted to move to an electric boat. I just purchased a Proboat Impulse 31 as I was told this a good place to start. Just waiting for the boat to be shipped in to the LHS.

Now for the advise. I also ordered two 2S Turnigy 5000mAh 40C batteries to run. Are these batteries safe to run in a stock setup? Also looking at buying two upgrades and looking for guidance. What adjustable trim tabs would you recommend and also what prop would you put on a stock setup? Was looking at the Octura X645 but was worried this might be too much prop for a stock setup. Any hints you can give would be great.

Also what sort of run times and speeds could you predict out of a stock setup with the batteries mentioned above?

Also if anyone is in the Port Coquitlam(British Columbia) area and is available in the next few weeks to run their boats, send me a message. Sorry for the rookie questions.

X645 is way too much prop. Try an x640/x642 to start with. You might want to also think about ditching the deans connectors for some 5.5mm ones and also upgrading the motor to esc connectors as proboat fit tiny ones. Do that and propping up shouldn't be a prob.

Put it this way. I was running an x645 on my genesis 4074 2000kv motor with a turnigy 180a esc and 5000mah 40c lipos and they puffed! I can get away with it in cold weather but once it warms up it just can't handle it. So I doubt the proboat motor and esc will last long on it.

Thanks for those replies. I have already ordered to bullet connectors. So an x640 or x642 should be okay with the stock motor and speed controller?

Start with the x640 or a x442. The x642 maybe a bit much and pushing the stock speedo. That PB1800kv is hotter then I thought it would be. It spiked some high amps even with a grim 40x52/3. Sharpening and balanceing the stock prop is a try also Try out the CF series props. The CF42 maybe worth a try, only $5 I think. You maybe able to run a cf45, watch the temps though. They flex underload so they pull less amps then a metal prop. Not as good performance as a metal prop obviosuly but not shabby non-the-less.

My first boat was the Impulse31 last fall and I love it! I run the same packs and I run a x445 and have no problems at all with temps.....

                trim tabs...

That's also a lot of prop on that motor. Suprised is hanging on for you. I pulled 72amp burst in a MG with that PB1800 and a 40x52/3 with the amps settling in the mid 60s. 5.5mm all the way around, esc temps gotta little hot. Don't remeber, but I did I right up with it in the PB section. I used a eagltree datal-ogger. I wouldn't run the x445 if it was mine... .JMHO

My temps were fine but I was also running in late fall, big lake, low water temps now that I think about it. what would be the next step down? x442? I like to run in the safe zone because I just sport run.....

x442 should work fine. Even a x440 or prather 215. The stock prop is the same specs as a prather 215 if Im not mistaken. Sharpen and balance it and you should yield ok speed, but increased run time and lower amp draw..
