If its a two piece, It is missing the cuts that move in when you tighten the cap nut.
Or its missing the brass piece, Like I said.

The gaps in the insert have been over tightened,prob from the factory.I have gotten a couple like that,new.They are compressed closed. TRASH IT!

I tried one of the cheap 6mm collets, waste of money unfortunately, loose on the motor and no matter what couldn't get the shaft into the other end. LOL yours at least fits the motor shaft, 50% better than the one I ended up with.
Typical chinese quality control. Or complete lack of!
