In 1/8 scale club that is near me is running 8s 40c or higher and everybody is running the NEU 1.5y. Is there a leopard motor or any other motor that I could run than the NEU 1.5y. Their are 4 electric guys running with the gas and they won't let the electric guys go past 8s setup. Should I use Swordfish ESC or Castle or any other. I'm going to put in a 1997 Miss Budweiser thanks for looking.

For 8s I'd go with the Leopard 5698 910kv. You're gonna need all the ESC you can muster since an 8s setup with this big motor will pull 200+ amps easy to get any speed.............a swordfish 240a HV is minimum.......dont even consider the 200a Castle. Fightercat racing makes a 300 amp HV i believe.......I'd even suggest going more than 240.

Wayne let me help you out early in your RC boat career........the KB's are: Hot running, Amp hogging, 2 pole, inefficient turds. Also the size is no where near what is needed for this boat.........its a 4574 whereas the Leopard is 5698............huge difference, and the Leopard puts out about 5 times the power minimum.NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? I can't remember the IMPBA rules for 1/8. NAMBA is wide open T power. If you're just building it to play, the sky's the limit.
A properly tuned and reasonably built 1/8 should be able to run in the 60's with 1527/1.5y or 4035-800 on 8S. We ran 25 seconds and change for 2 laps with a 25 year old converted nitro boat with the scorpion and a castle 200. Plenty of power in the 8S1P 5300's for a full heat and mill. I want to say the prop was a 1655 that I'd bent on a bit.Brian "Snowman" Buaas

My name Is Bob Brackett. My son and I have raced In RCU all last season with 2 FE boats. We are running the NEU 1527 1.5y on 8s with the Castle Ice 240 HV with data logging. We have been experimenting with various batteries(amps) and will continue to do so. If you are planning on running in RCU I would suggest that you go to their web site and under information read the FE amendent. We have an agreement with RCU that will let us race with them for another 2 seasons before a decision is made on if we can continue to race with the nitro boats. We have had extremely good luck with this combination. We are still running the first NEU motor we bought, we did a lot of fall(2010) and spring(2011) testing before running our first race last season, we attended all the race and never had and engine or ESC fail. We never had to oil the motor and it is still running as fast as ever. At the end of the season my son, Rob had won one race and finished 4th in the season high points. We are not the fastest boats on the circuit but are getting to the point where we can hold our own. If you want to run other than the NEU I would suggest that you keep at or under 850KV. Any boat that shows up and dominates the nitro boats will stand the probability of being outlawed by the board. We have more FE boats that are going to run this season and so far everyone has agreed to the RCU amendent. We have posted several videos of our testing and racing on Youtube, just type in Scales Unlimited and you can see where we are. The one area we are playing with is props, all have a maximum diameter of 55MM and we are starting to get better performance. We are running in the high 50s and are still able to be on the water at the one minute mark and still finish 5 laps of racing with approximately 40% of the batteries remaining (5000mAh). We have run 5000mAh, 5300mAh and 6000mAh nano techs with about the same results. If you have any questions let me know and we will tell you what we have learned.

the TP Power 5692 780KV with the Fightercat 16S 300A, 16S 400A or 8S 300A esc should be a good combo.Comment

Like others said and XL size motor won't work in a 1/8th. I used a Lehner 2280, or a Plett 370 when I raced mine but seen guys use the 1527 which is a good motor also. They are big boats and need bigger motors then a standard boat.

Just curious what power setup you use with the 5692 780KV motor? 8S1P/8S2P or higher? If running on 8S would a higher 900-1000KV motor be more beneficial? What cell rating 30C, 40C or higher and what mAh? I'm looking to convert a Proboat hydro to FE just to scoot around and not competitively race. I know this hull is much heavier than scratch built hydros. Is 4000mAh with either 30C or 40C suitable? Longer run times are nice but stocking up on lipos is expensive. A plus with 4000mAh is I can use them on other RC applications besides boating (aka planes or even sport heli).Comment
