Perfect timing, have a piece to cut and fit in a hull, been holding off because I usually hate working with cloth and resin. Never looks as good as the rest of my work.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

For a pro finish use a foam paint touch up roller. It will remove bubbles and suck up excess resin without fraying the ends. No more lumpy bottoms!!

It also cuts easier with special purpose scissors or very heavy, tight scissors/shears.

I've also used a metal straight edge and sharp razor or hobby knife for cutting FG and CF.

The best type of knife ive found for cutting carbon & glass is one of the roller knives with the round cutting blade, stay sharp much longer as well as your not cutting with the tip of a blade. You also get zero pull on the fibres.

Obviously you still have to be careful when working the piece, and another good thing is that the hairspray does not seem to prevent the epoxi soaking in well.

Hairspray. +1 simple and no fuss.

Rotary cutters and Kevlar don't play well together

I never mentioned kevlar for that very reason, most that line their hulls on here use carbon & not kevlar or carbon/kevlar mix.

Most people I've seen on here and other forums use Carbon/Kevlar, not Carbon fiber. Alot of people like the colored weave. I use Carbon fiber on most of my boats, but I think the majority use CK.
I can't picture the cutter you're talking about though martin, do you have a pic you can post?

Most of the builds ive seen use carbon to reinforce, re rotary knifes if you go to Ebay & put rotary knives in youll see what they are. The one i use has around a 2" diam blade so the cutting edge is around 6" (circumfrence). For cutting fibre glass either chop strand mat or cloth & carbon you simply roll the blade over the cloth, sometimes you dont think its cut as nothing moves or pulls. You only realise its cut when you slide the 2 pieces apart. Martin.

here are some pics of how it turned out, i was able to get some light fiberglass for backing, i did what darin has suggested, thanks that works awesome! and the super 77 adhesive works wonders! the hull looks like is was almost vacuum formed! and the edges are clean! really like this way, im building a shocker and the motor mounts i fabricated to use with fighter cat water cooled motormounts, i removed about 3/16 off the bottom to lower the motor so i will have minimal bend in the stuffing tube, ill but some other pics up in a build log, i just learned how to load pics, had to use my old laptop, use ipad for almost everything but loading pics doesnt work, at least i dont know how. so tell me what you all think this is my second build ever so im a work in progress and still learning.

Oh and I just use some scissors , just some craft scissors the wife had laying around. Sharp and very close shearing so clean cut. In the photos I lined the hull with blue black and yellow carbon and Kevlar, ran out of that so the motor mounts were carbon and Kevlar that's why the two different colors .
