Thanks for all the info. Does Striker or Insane have websites? I googled but came up empty.

If it where me I'd build the avenger pro. It looks more scale than then Stryker or Insane.

          SJFE,,,,
I also like the somewhat scale look of the Avenger Pro... Here is a picture of mine that is getting 10S and 2215 treatment!!

But, I did see a guy in our club run his Insane Gen 2 Cat with CC 260 Mod Zen,, It was running 57-59mph on GPS and turned like it was on rails at FULL WOOD in the turns.. It was very windy also, very very choppy.... I really am impressed with the way the Insane Cats handle!!

Steven, I am getting a Gen 1 Insane Cat, it should be here by Friday... It has a powerjazz 63V and runs on 10S.... I will run it with the gas guys this weekend, and let you know what I think about it??

No question. However, at speeds over 60 both ride far better. Trust me, the Avenger hull is a handful and the faster it goes, the more work it becomes. In the video my boat was propped way down and running sub 60 mph. Propped up and over 60 it is a whole different boat.

If scale appearance is the primary criteria, then the Avenger and others are great choices.

I've seen a large number of the gas Strykers and Insane cats run. They are rock solid at very high speeds.

First I'd stick with 10S because it is legal in both organizations, but if 12S is what you have for informal racing, go for it. As for the hull, I built a Stryker because few if any FE guys had done it, but it requries a bit more work and is not scale-like at all. It isn't legal in NAMBA but all the gas races in this part of the country are IMPBA. I have seen the Insane Gen I run (gas and FE) and it is a good hull too. The Seaducer is just too wierd for my tastes. You can also run an Aeromarine Sprint Cat with the classic cowl - reverse the cowl and it is legal. I have an AC R-42 and it is beautiful, but I have not yet put it together. These are all 40"+ hulls.

For racing nitro boats a Team Believer is not a bad choice. Racing the smaller nitro cats in the 32-36" range the TB would work well, but in rougher water, higher speeds or with the big cats I'd go with at least 40". The extra weight is a big advantage so whatever you do get a full nitro build hull, not a "light layup". Use larger components when possible, sometimes they are even cheaper. Example: I use a HiTec 755HB servo - 183 in-oz of torque and big gears that won't break....and it costs less than $30. Heavy motor mounts, 1/4" cable, SpeedMaster hardware, etc. help build strength and reliability into the model - and add the weight you need. My Stryker weighs 20 lbs and some FE guys run cats weighing 22 lbs.

Motors - from Lehner 2280s/Neu 1527s up to the Lehner 3060/Neu 2215. Aim for around 25,000-30,000 rpm (Kv x cells x 3.5 volts) when choosing the Kv, high end for the smaller format motors, low end for the big boys. Larger motors run cooler and swing bigger props. My racing setup is conservative and pulls around 4000 mAh in a full mile heat with a full mill lap with top speeds in the upper 50s. That was plenty in the fields I ran with, but I can prop 'way up and go a lot faster. A TB with a 2280 would use less.

Reliability is a big feature of the big FE cats....I actually dove under water in one very rough Open Cat heat and came up about ten seconds later - with the sponson tips covered in mud. I hit the throttle and kept racing....none of the fuel boats that did the same kept going!

i think i read somewhere that one of our forum members is almost ready to introduce a big mti cat.
i do hope this thread pushes him into an earlier intro fo his cat.

i know he puts out great quality products. i for one would like to buy one of those.

Hey Steven I know your a buzy man like most of us with kids and full time jobs are but We dont ever get to see many of your personall boats and builds. Could this one perhaps be aired out for us to see. Or could we see some of your favorite builds and some vids of driving them? I know with a shop full of parts you have to tinker here and there.

Most of my private boat time is spent keeping up my kids boats these days. They may not be exciting for you guys to see, but they have a blast with them. They have a couple of modified Mini Vee's. The reason for the Mini Vee's is that they are small enough for them to have fun with and handle themselves with supervision.
They also have supervee's, a pt109 thats waiting to get wet and a AquaCraft ProFisherman that I spend more time fixing the hull for cracks than I would like to admit. I have a couple of mean machines with different setups that I like to play with and my all time favorite is a toysport syncron. The syncron screams with 12 cells or 4s and I never need to get my feet wet if it rolls over with the flood chamber.
