Chrsitmas Giveaway??? Would it be ok with Steven?? Anyone interested to participate?

    Hey guys,
It has been a big success on JRCBD & RCU with a Christmas giveaway each year not sure if it would be ok to do one or not but it is always fun and enjoyable to be a part of and give parts to someone who might be in need and possibly get something you might need as well.

Here are the rules from how it done.
Post what you want to give; someone else post that they want that gift.

One gift to be taken per person.

Only members may participate; no member may participate on behalf of a non-member friend.
New members after the process begins can be a part of it the last week as to not have people joining just to be a part of it then never been seen again.

The giver specifies how shipping will be handled.

No asking for a specific gift that has not been offered. Example: Don't post "I need a motor mount, who has one?"

Figure if it's ok Dec 1st seams like a good time to start?!

How do you handle giving an entire boat then receiving an antenna tube? is there a gift estimated price cap? What if the gift received is a dead item (like an ESC?)

There is no cap on what can be given and it doesn't need to necessarily be only boat related although most of the time it has been.
People have given away complete boats or things as small as zuber nuts...

In the spirit of Christmas I would hope people are not giving away dead items.

It's in the spirit of giving not meant so people can just jump on board and get something they don't need, at same time we do not all necessarily have something to give....
You do not need to give to get or vise versa.......

It has also been custom that if you get something we do not want to see it in the for sale thread a few weeks down the line use it or pay it forward to someone else!!!

My mistake. I assumed that only givers would be participants.

Nope anyone who is a member could participate to either give, get or both.
If that were the case people would be obligated to give if they wanted to get and then I could see some not so honest of people possibly taking advantage of things which is not what we would all want.

Like I said its in the spirit of Christmas to give something you might have that do not need or would be willing to give to someone else.
Some people have even stated I want to give this to a newby to help them out....

Interesting idea Jeff. I can sent up a section for just this purpose. Want to mod it and keep everyone in check?

Yep, I also think that the "taker" should try and offer something to "give" as well...it will help to keep this going too....

I have always thought this was a great idea on the other boards....

I see people getting taken advantage of.

If there was a pool of like priced items then I would be in. It would give some of us the opportunity to try something different.

Why not just a simple gift exchange like at work? Give something, get something. There may be three categories: $5-25, $25-45, 45-no cap.
The third category honors your "spirit of giving theme" as someone could offer up a $1,000 european cat ready to run and still get a $45 chinese ESC.
This way those that want to play it safe can sit in the first two categories and not feel cheated, and others can give till their hearts content.\\

I think that we are forgetting the main idea, which is to give. I know that there are some of us that don't have much to give but some of us do. You can't look at this as a swap meet. Some might take advantage of this but most won't. I think that we just have to remember the season. Everyone has something that they don't need, use, or can afford to give away. It can be from a servo mount to a hull! Just look around and see what you have. I know that this worked out VERY well on JRCBD! This is a great opportunity to help some of the newbies and unemployed to get something they need. Thanks Jason

There is no way really to take advantage of the idea when things are being given away.
People can get 1 item and give as much as they want.
Giver specifies if they want to pay shipping or have taker pay shipping.
It's a no loose situation for anyone.
It's all about the giving no exchanges no need to feel obligated to give.

If we can get everyone on board I have no problem modding the thread.

If this comes about, I know I have some goods that would like to send to someone that might be in need.
