Boaterguy, I've got one of those in 2000kv I've been sitting on, probably going to end up in a 32" mono, 4s2p, no reason a 6s version wouldn't be a good boat to start with.
You will be able to find a good hull and hardware in the swap over the winter. Don't go too big so you can run a smaller prop and not worry about running a lv esc at it's limit. Don't even think of SAW stuff yet, all you'll do is let the smoke out, even guys who have been doing it for years cook things regularly doing SAW runs. Especially if you can't afford the best of the best.
There is a club in your area, The Ottawa Valley Racers or something like that, why don't you find out what they run and put something together to run with them, you'll learn 100% faster if you join a club and have people able to give you hands on help. Somebody may even have a race boat they are selling, any money yuo can save can be put back into quality batteries a good charger, spare/better motor, more props....
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I'm going with two FC 8S 300A esc's, should definitely hold up.
i'll keep my eye on the swap shop but I really had my hopes up for building one right, but I guess that'll be next build.
is the fantasm the only 40" cat out there?

My dad told me, the only way I could have one was to build it as a kit. Now I know, a buggy in this case, went together w/ full detail instructions and its kinda hard to screw it up. But we built it, ran it, tuned it and learned from it. then i got another kit, and another which led to other RC things, planes boats etc. My first boat was a 42" gasser. I had under $150. complete w/ radio into it. that was my first build. Homemade hull by a local guy, free echo weedeter, am radio out of one of my cars, took one of moms tuperware containers for a radio box (got yelled at for that) and I was about 15 when I did that. As you go along, you get all the experience you need. It doesnt come over night and your first builds not going to be a HPR. But, you can always work towards it. As for the Fantasm, a twin build takes experience. I was taught very early, you have to crack an egg to make an omlett. Your going to screw things up now and again. Ive been building for quite a while (35 now) and I still have my moments. A build isnt based on "lets see who can finish it first" It doesnt matter. A build needs to be quality and needs to be correct. I even hesitate on some of these new hulls as no one has built one yet, so whats the best this and that for it. Id wait a while. Let a few of these get built by experienced folks. Learn from what they did on thier builds and how they did it. Learn from thier possible mistakes, then build one. And you wont build it for cheap. Hull and hardware alone will be expensive.

the conclusion to my novel is this, if you want a twin, by a RTR one. You only think youve had headaches w/ your single drives. Wait till you have two of everything. it can be frustrating. Start small bud. You have nothing to prove to any of us bc you get this or that hull. Fe boating is boating. we all do it for the love and passion of it. get good at it, learn about it and work your way up the ladder. In ten years you will look back and be glad you did it that way. Otherwise, its just gunna frustrate you, take all your money and you will move on to something else.
Funny, I think sometimes I have my moments on purpose
I'm married with children, you can't scare me!

too much done for me already, I just don't feel like i'm doing anything.
what I might do is post videos of everything i'm about to do and get comments from the people on here before I do anything irreversible, that way everyone wins.

new idea, what about building two bling rocket 32's? then I can compare adjustments really easily, and I did the calcs, it looks like it'll be cheaper than a twin cat.

Why can't you build one and make adjustments to it? I don't understand what having two accomplishes?

Boaterguy, your diving and you cant even swim. Do yourself a favor, if you have money, buy a Pursuit from OSE and tinker with it. You are a young man. You have all the time in the world to "make it yours". A rtr or artr is your safest and cheapest bet to get out of the "green" zone with FE. On another note, start a thread with your pondering instead of clouding up this one. Members here will help you, including myself...as long as your willing to accept and put to use our suggestions. Remember, you cant go from a big wheel to a Funny Car just because you read alot about it on a forum.
