Been watching this thread for a couple of days and only have one question. What is with the I was not there thing, but, I will throw mud anyway??????

Knowing at least 1 person in this thread personally (stayed at his house for the Eugene trip this month after work, spent the 4th of July there, ...) and can honestly say that he would be one of the first to call out anyone including himself for a record violation.

Having said that, I think it is a little lame to imply (at the very least) that something is going on below the water so as to speak. I would say to anyone that passed the tech inspect "Have a little more fun in the future and see what else you can obliterate or break."

I would guess that more than a few of you have never been through tech at the dragstrip. If it passes you run, if not you go home. On the same note, if it passes and you set a record and can back it up it is yours. By the way if they suspect you are not legal they will tear you down on the spot. They know about what it takes to produce that record, if it sounds absurd it might just be. If you start whining at the teardown it can and does get worse. I healthy dose of keeping your mouth shut usually helps keep it to the manifold and heads. Not so smart, it all comes out just to prove a point.

None of which are we talking about. Electric motors are incredibly simple, unlike internal combustion. For a specific winding, flux density available iron content/density they will perform in a specific range. It is all about how much current you can throw at the motor before it or the semiconductors leak smoke and cease to function. I think we are still way far away on props and there is more to be gained, and that is what is going on here.

In attendance or not has no bearing on anything, if you cannot trust the system there is a problem, and perhaps the problem is the person and not the system.

It's a hobby, or did I miss something here???

OK, I have to throw in some observations. It does concern me that there's been some "questioning", overtly or otherwise. With such numbers it's not to be unexpected that some head scratching took place - I figured it might and it's ok. And while I know my that FE pedigree is fairly junior compared to most of the posters here, I have attended EVERY SAW race at Legg since I set my first record there in 2006 and have some thoughts to share from the "human" perspective. That anyone would attempt to achieve enhanced performance by anything other than strict compliance with what's called for is completely absurd. Yes I'm making character judgements, but I've become close enough to the players here to state unequivically that no funny stuff ever took place, intentional or otherwise not detected by incomplete teching. I'm a good judge of character, have a Master's in Psychology, and could spot okey-dokeying a mile away. No such stuff was evidenced. None. Believe me, I'd pretty much know. In fact as Darin pointed out, Brian set a tall record in one class and HANDED me the prop he did it with JUST to have me up his numbers and beat his record. It worked - picked up 12+ mph with no other change (one way; darn uphill wind kept screwing my backup) along with Darin sharpening my rudder for another increase( the cut on my thumb's healing fine BTW) and these guys rooted for me to beat the record. Good vibes and good healthy competition. And yes, Legg is fast water. Maybe it's the leftover pink tofu thrown in there by the local natives after lunch. Who knows ?

We've been running at the Legg Lake SAWs since 2003. That's where I met Brian and a lot of the other west coast racers. We've been competing with Mark Grim for the fastest gas boat since 2004. Since gas racers aren't as nice as electric racers, we never lent Mark any of our props or knife blade rudders. However, we look at his stuff and he looks at ours. Currently he has all but the GX1 hydro records. Some years the competition was rough for him and others it was rough for us. However, the judging was always fair, even if our record gets disallowed, the comradery was outstanding, and Kim's food can't be beat. The venue is the best I've raced at. You won't believe how much you can learn just by attending. I'm still thinking about discussions I had with Joerg on prop design and the reasons he designed his boat the way he did. You can't duplicate that kind of information without being there.
