    Deans - poor connection?! Recommendations?

Ok I've probably answered my own question but I brought some cheap deans style connectors and spent an evening soldering away, which worked great for about a dozen runs, but now the connection is really bad and plugs have to be pushed half way in to get a good connection, my question is what should I go for to replace the deans and how to avoid getting rubbish again? At the time I just searched "deans connectors" on eBay and brought from a UK seller so thought they'd be ok?

    Thanks

Don't have any idea what set-up you have, but most on here use 5.5mm bullets at a minimum. The deans are rated to about 50 amps, the HK ones handle much less efficiently.

I use ec5s with no issues plus they are much easier to solder onto the huge wires that turnigy put on their batteries with a mini blow torch solder pen.

Thanks, I am only running 7 cell nimh's so don't have to worry about current!! I've just ordered some 4mm bullets fingers crossed I will have more luck but it's only to get the boat running properly before it goes on eBay along with batteries and charger

even though you run 7 cell NiMh batteries, go to the 5.5mm bullet connectors.

EC5's or 5.5mm or higher. Don't waste your time (or money) on other stuff.

I have used Deans with good success. As long as amp draw is not too high. Here are two 3300mah 4s packs paralleled on my UL-1

you can try prying out the little tabs on the male connector, it may make a tighter connection

Deans are good for 60 amps(same as 3.5mm bullets), 4mm bullets are good for 100A, 5mm bullets are for 150A and 5.5 are for 200A. These #'s are continues and don't consider spikes.

I have had some of the HK ones, ether of the 2 part #'s listed, and they do fit a bit loose but after ramming a 2.5mm allen wrench down the center of the male end they fit perfectly snug and become almost impossible to pull apart. I personally will continue to use them as I have yet to have them fail, come unsoldered, or break.

The castles are just a better quality conn. I have hk ones and the plating wears easily imo they are strong yes but need to be fiddled with

I do agree that the plating wears rather quickly when used as battery leads. You do have a very good point there. For motor leads they are great though.

Thanks for all your comments I will go with the 5.5mm, the deans still seem tight but the tabs are worn and obviously arent working properly

ya safe is good with boats,we all learn that the hard way.you can cheap out on land and air based stuff but a boat that is floating fire is hard to watch hehe. And jack you have a good point for motors they dont get so much in and out duty like lipos do,save a few bucks there bro.
